iPhone users prefer Panera, Android users eat at Hardee’s

“Your choice when it comes to operating systems says a lot about you, including what you like to eat, according to data provided to CNBC by NPD Group’s Checkout Tracking,” Nicholas Wells reports for CNBC.

“IPhone users were much more likely to go for a liquid lunch, with soup and smoothies taking the top spots for iOS choices. Soup had an iPhone-to-Android index of 151, meaning that purchasers were 51 percent more likely to be iPhone users. An index of 100 would be equality between the operating systems,” Wells reports. “Android users leaned more toward heavy, hearty foods like roast beef and fried chicken. The Android-to-iPhone index for cheeseburgers was 113 and roast beef sandwiches 119.”

“”If you were to generalize, you do tend to find the iOS is a little more Target while Android is more Wal-Mart,” said Andy Mantis, executive vice president of the group, pronouncing Target the pseudo-fancy way,” Wells reports. “iPhone users had a median income of $85,000 in 2014, versus Android users’ $61,000, according to a report from Web analytics firm comScore.”

      1. I knew that there was another reason that I was Boycotting Carl’s Jr.: it was not just the low class clientele and poor quality of food but it was the Android stench there too.

  1. For everyone who was ready to chime in professing their love of burgers and pizza, and declaring this ‘bogus’, if you look closely, you’ll notice that it doesn’t say 100 iPhone — 0 Android. There are still plenty of iPhone users who eat at McDonalds, or Little Caesar’s.

The point remains, though; people with means tend to be better educated and know better what to eat (and can afford better food). They also tend to have more open-minded taste for food, willing to experiment beyond those burgers and pizza.

    1. “though; people with means tend to be better educated and know better what to eat (and can afford better food).”

Moe’s! Really?!? Moe’s!!! (and yes, I have eaten there)

    2. Perhaps you ordered the cause and effect wrong?

      instead of:
“people with means tend to be better educated and know better what to eat”

      try
“people that are educated tend of have better means and know better what to eat”

      correlation does not imply causation

      1. You may be right, although there are still plenty of places where you cannot get a good education unless you have means. America is perfect example: decent college costs $40,000 per year. Not many parents can afford this, and not all students are ready to take on lifetime student loans. Rest of the developed world offers higher education for much, much less, and in many countries, it is completely free.

Whichever of the two is cause, and whichever effect, educated wealthy people apparently end up eating better. And owning iPhones.

        1. Obviously (I didn’t realise I had to actually spell it out). The point is, education is free for everyone to receive, regardless of family (or individual) means.

Or to make it perfectly clear: money from the taxes collected by the government from the population (retail, income, inheritance, whatever) is used to pay for all levels of education (not just elementary and high school), so the every member of society, no matter how rich or poor, can attend college, get a bachelor’s, masters’, or PhD.

        2. There are plenty of ways to get a college education in America for those that don’t have means. It’s probably the hardest on the middle class where there is a lack of funding available and it is difficult to fully fund that themselves. But I completely agree with you that there are complex socioeconomic issues that often get in the way of getting higher education. Unfortunately those issues usually play out long before the question of how to fund college becomes a question.

Not sure I agree with you on the decent college cost. I am putting two kids through right now at excellent state schools. One is covering his own room and board by being an RA so costing me less than 15k/yr. Other is costing close to 22k/yr with room & board. Still not easy though. I know some other middle class families having their kids stay at home and do community college for the first couple years to cut overall costs.

  2. Rather go to McDonalds than Hardee’s.

Places I prefer? Rubio’s, In and Out, our local French bakery. Panera is good, but I am more of a Salad/Burger person. So the menu there is rather limited for me.

  3. Take a look at the calories and nutritional content…none of them are great, no matter how smart you think that you are or which phone you use. The least calorific whole (not half) Panera veggie sandwich is 590 kcals, without anything else to go with it. Not much different from McDonalds quarter pounder at 520 kcals. Some of the Panera’s sandwiches are pushing 1000 kcals. Now you’re talking double cheese with bacon burger territory! Not picking on Panera’s, all the ones on this list are similar.

      1. In 5 to 10 years Androiders will be having sex with their Google robot buddies. The user will say, “Honey, I need some horizontal refreshment.” The Google robot will say, “You make a great team. It’s been that way since the day you met. But your erectile dysfunction could be a question of blood flow. Cialis tadalafil for daily use helps you be ready any time the moments right. You can be more confident in your ability to be ready. And the same Cialis is the only ED tablet approved to treat ED and symptoms of BPH like meaning to go frequently or urgently. Tell your doctor about all your conditions and ask if your heart is healthy enough for sexual activity. Do not take Cialis if you take nitrates for chest pain as this may cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. Do not drink alcohol in excess with Cialis. Side effects my include headache, upset stomach, delayed back ache or muscle ache. To avoid long term injury seek immediate help for an erection lasting more than four hours. If you have any sudden decrease or loss in hearing or vision, or if you have any allergic reactions such as rash, hives, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing or swallowing, stop taking Cialis and seek medical help right away. Ask your doctor about Cialis right away for daily use in a 30-tablet free trial.” The Android user will then say “I like tacos”.

  4. I’m sorry, this class warfare stuff is completely rude and unnecessary. It serves no purpose other than to puff up your own arrogance. I welcome all people, prince or pauper to the promised land of the Apple ecosystem.

  5. I think combining a cheeseburgers and hot dogs and potato chips and bacon and onion rings into one sandwich required genius and sensitivity to the needs of us high-powered, iOS-using executives who have no time to eat every day, or to choose between one dish or the other. Consuming two days’ worth of flavors and calories all at once while driving to my next important meeting saves me time to make all the super-important decisions you need me to make to improve your lives.
