“Information on the materials that will be used to build Apple’s so-called “iPhone 6s” was detailed by well-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, in a research note summarized by Macotakara,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.
“According to Kuo, the next iPhone will be slightly wider and taller by about 0.15 millimeters, while it will be thicker by 0.2 millimeters — changes that could be due to the new Force Touch display expected in the device,” Hughes reports. “For perspective, the current iPhone 6 measures 6.9 millimeters thick, while the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1 millimeters.”
MacDailyNews Take: Our iPhone 6 Plus units seem ridiculously thin, yet they’re already incredibly rigid for their thinness. We take them everywhere, often sans cases, but no signs of any deformation whatsoever.
Hughes reports, “As for the 7000 Series aluminum, Apple introduced it in the Apple Watch [Sport], touting that it had created an entirely new alloy that’s 60 percent stronger than most aluminum, while just one-third the density of stainless steel.”

MacDailyNews Take: Bring it on – our 7000 series aluminum Apple Watch Sport units, worn every waking hour for nearly two months now, still look brand spanking new. It’s actually amazing how untouched they look.
I’ve been hoping Apple would use steel from recycled Pinto bumpers.
Jokes aside, I wish Apple would offer LiquidMetal option. Yes, it can not be main material as it is much pricier than aluminium alloy, but as as higher-end option I would glad to see it.
Hopefully there will be no bulge for the camera lens on this model.
But the camera bulge fits perfectly in a case, so it’s not a concern, at least for me. Your mileage may differ.
Not everyone uses cases. I usually don’t but did this time around because of the camera bulge. If you have had a case of quite some time, take it off and you’ll feel like you’re looking at and handling a completely different device. Quite amazing. When I start feeling like I need some Apple retail therapy and want a next gen iPhone earlier than they release it, I just take the case off the one I already have and marvel at it for a bit.
I don’t use a case and with this stronger alloy, a case should be less necessary anyway.
i bought a case for my iPhone 6; first time ever for two reasons: (1) camera lens bulging out the back, (2) size combined with slipperiness made it harder to hold with confidence that it wasn’t going to slip out of my hand. i got a case that is really thin, it is just the right thickness to match up with the protruding lens. and just the right amount of stickiness.
I wish they released a new iPhone with the same levels of improvement every 6 months instead of every year.
I’d like to see the aluminum from the watch used in the 6s, matching the space gray watch.
