“Although there was no new Apple TV announcement at the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on Monday, that doesn’t mean Apple has ignored its streaming set-top box,” Brian P. Rubin reports for Read/Write. “In fact, it just increased the number of TV devices developers could test their apps, boosting the number to 100 units this week.”
“Granted, that may not seem like a major development — unless you consider that Apple may be setting the stage for a windfall of new third-party apps for the living room screen,” Rubin reports. “That’s the way developer Ouriel Ohayon took the news. Having noticed the change, he tweeted out a screenshot along with the words: ‘Apple TV apps are coming.'”

Way back in the Mac OS9 days Apple stuck to their design guidelines and apps had an intuitive look to them. I read articles detailing how many clicks it took to perform common tasks on Mac vs Windows. At that time the emphasis was on efficiency and getting work done. Now the emphasis is on looking pretty at the expense of getting work done. I think Apple needs to re-evaluate.

There is currently only one model of Apple TV for sale. This report is about allowing developers to use up to 100 different Apple TVs for beta testing apps. They used to only be able to test on 1 device (I think).
If you’re talking about the “starting from … ” aspect, that’s how Apple describes the prices of pretty well every bit of hardware. I suspect that nobody at Apple noticed the the prices start from £59 and also finish at £59.

Yeah, I can tell that AppleTV apps are on their way – just as they have been for several years now – seeing as how there was absolutely no announcement about an AppleTV development kit at the WWDC keynote. Tim Cook instead chose to worship a demographic that has absolutely no bearing on Apple’s bottomline.

As for Tim Cook, I’ve known he was a homo for years now and never said anything about it. I started saying something about it when he decided to stick his nose into the politics of it and presuming to selectively advocate for the revocation of Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Association, and Freedom of Religion, in certain cases for certain people.
Moreover, he showed on Monday that Apple is now becoming an assertively politically correct entity, rather than simply remaining neutral.

The Keynote if for public consumption, and there are always more details provided to developers at the later sessions. This article is evidence that changes are happening to the status of Apple TV (and don’t conflate Apple TV with a TV from Apple). Apple wouldn’t invite developers to beta test Apple TV apps to a hundred different devices if a sea change to developer’s access to Apple TV wasn’t imminent. Developers are under NDA at these sessions, so don’t confuse no published news about this as there being no announcement to devs.
But since apple wants a gaming platform, apple tv may help move them into games in a big way. Just doing another Hulu, or netflix, would be a waste of engineering.

I really wished they’d had just announced this at WWDC. Even if we have to wait half a year or so for some service, app store or new hardware. Just showing something about AppleTV or TV related is the fresh “thing” Apple needed to have at WWDC and that users have been waiting for under baited breath.
I use my AppleTV almost, if not sometimes more than, my iPhone, and I really want new usability features and a better UI. Whether that comes in the form of new hardware or a software update, I don’t care. It’s just been far too long and WWDC was such a let down this year.
Me too. But this *was* a developers conference. I suspect that Apple want’s to show devs this week in the NDA sessions how prepare apps for Apple TV (with new, more muscular hardware) so they have apps ready for a rollout this Fall for both the new Apple TV and Apple TV Store.
It never ceases to amaze me how year after year after year, how as soon as theirs an Apple TV rumour, everyone just jumps all over it assumes it true, then gets ticked at apple when it doesn’t come true. Isn’t this the same rumour that was supposed to announced at wwdc15…just saying.
I also hear that apple is going to introduce a Bluetooth toaster that strictly works only with iPad Air 2 at the next event.

I didn’t base one damn thing on a rumor. I based my hope for an AppleTV development kit on the fact that it is an obvious and necessary thing for them to do, and on the Apple teases as well.

The graphic for the WWDC clearly set an expectation for a meaningful focus on the Apple device.
The absolute silence from the conference through today regarding the device and HomeKit makes it clear there was a failure at a very high level to get things done.
