“The iPhone is arguably the first smartphone that I, like many people, saw as a must-have device,” Alex Colon writes for PC Magazine. “I didn’t get that feeling when the Apple Watch was announced last September. And I still don’t have it after wearing one for the last five days. Don’t get me wrong: Right now, the Apple Watch is the best smartwatch there is, hands-down. And it’s easily Apple’s most ambitious new product since the iPhone. It’s almost certain to improve with time, as Apple has already managed to attract an impressive lineup of third-party app developers.”
“Even in its current state, the Apple Watch does more than any other smartwatch on the market,” Colon writes. “But the Apple Watch isn’t perfect. For starters, it’s expensive; the 42mm stainless steel model with Milanese Loop I tested costs $699. You also have to charge it every night, which is a bummer. And without your iPhone nearby, there really isn’t a ton the watch can do. So while the Apple Watch is the most advanced, polished, and intriguing smartwatch to hit the market, it’s not exactly a must-have.”
“The Apple Watch is the best smartwatch available, and that certainly counts for something,” Colon writes. “The amount of third-party content already available is impressive, and in a year from now, when more app developers figure out what to do with it, the experience will only be better. So while I’m not sure quite how well the watch will hold up as a high-end fashion investment, from a technology standpoint, it’s a pretty safe bet.”

MacDailyNews Take: Five days is simply not a long enough period to arrive some of Colon’s conclusions. After reading the full review, and after using Apple Watch extensively for the same period of time, we’re not sure that Colon fully gets it, yet.

Just checking in from time to time now. Even with all the hoopla over the watch and another smashing of the street with earnings, AAPL continues to languish at maybe one third of where it should be. Why could that be?

Most of Wall Street’s big traders were around in the ’90s and they haven’t gotten over it. They think the last 15 years of Apple were just a blip, and the company will return to 1997 levels any day now.

I think that the watch is a slow burner, slowly embedding itself into your lifestyle slowly but surely in various ways until you find that you can’t do with out it but never quite sure when that became so. So much of its value will come from enabling technology that it interacts with, almost seamlessly but most of that and stuff we can barely imagine yet is still some way off particularly in terms of being ubiquitous in our lives.
What the watch is now is only a hint of what it will become where any number of small yet tiresome interactions are taken over and presented in a far less tiresome fashion and increasingly powerful in what it can offer. However you need imagination to comprehend that and tech journalists are often the least imaginative of all hacks while other hacks are rarely imaginative in technological matters beyond the glitter of silver suit products, all gloss and no content other than a snake oil sales man inside.
He writes for PC Mag, that might explain certain of his conclusions.

Well then buy the model that costs $200 less, you fool! You deliberately and knowingly tested the expensive model and then complained that it’s expensive! WTF???

Alex Colon Of PC Magazine is not invested in Apple products, rather PCs and its ecosystem and products. No surprise Alex found negative things to write about. Duh!
The price of the watch is an intelligence test, “Do you value quality?” If yes, but an watch, if no, buy a cheaper ‘Droid Wear POS.
Also you don’t need to buy an Watch Edition, or Watch, an Watch Sport is more than adequate and not as pricey as the other watches.
Recharging, you need recharging (sleep) also, get some, you’ll give a better review. Other things need daily recharging also.

Battery life and charging are none issues….
Having the phone act as a hub in your pocket is a none issue.
Plus it can do a lot on its own through native apps for activities etc .
Its a genuis product !
