Only 376,000 of 1.7 million U.S. Apple Watch preorders were delivered this weekend

“Most people who pre-ordered an Apple Watch did not receive one in the first wave of shipments, with Slice Intelligence reporting that only 376,000 of the 1.7 million Apple Watches ordered were delivered to U.S. consumers this weekend,” Jaimee Minney reports for Slice Intelligence.

“A remaining 547,000 watches are expected to ship between April 27 and June 11; and 639,000 people will continue watch their email for word of when an additional 647,000 Apple Watches will start hitting doorsteps across the U.S., according to shipping notifications sent to Slice Intelligence’s panel of 2 million online consumers,” Minney reports.

With a panel of more than 2 million online shoppers, Slice Intelligence offers the most detailed and precise digital commerce data available, reported daily.

Slice Intelligence is the only service to measure digital commerce directly from the consumer, across all retailers, at the item level, over time. This retailer-independent methodology accurately measures commerce as it happens. By extracting detailed information from hundreds of millions of aggregated and anonymized ereceipts, Slice can map the entire Purchase Graph, connecting each and every consumer to all their purchases.

Slice gets its data from e-receipts – not a browser, app or software installed by the end-user – so its measurement reflects comprehensive shopping behavior across multiple devices, over time, from a representative sample of online consumers. Slice Intelligence correlates to the U.S. Department of Commerce as well as public filings of leading ecommerce companies.

MacDailyNews Take: We’ll see if Apple offers any hard numbers for Apple Watch today as the company reports Q215 results after the closing bell.

    1. Slice’s numbers cannot be anywhere near the truth. They are statistical modeling based on responses by self-selected members of their websites. There is no basis for assuming they have correct data at all.

    2. Continuing my comments, I am pretty certain, that Apple does not share its sales information, its ereceipts with slice. Those would be considered corporate proprietary information and therefor secret. They would NOT provide that data to any outside party.

  1. Slice is actually highly filtered data- only the people that have and use Slice can contribute to their statistics. It’s not really clear how representative those users of Slice are of the wider community of Watch buyers.

As others have said, time will tell (on an Watch, of course).
    🙂

    1. That’s true. They are more motivated and active than the average shopper. However, that’s also US only. It doesn’t include anything about the other countries where pre-ordering was available.

  2. Perhaps Apple is doing this in order to push bulk of sales revenue into the next (slowest yearly) quarter? This past one had strong iPhone numbers from China, so they may have figured, if they push the bulk of Watch revenue into the second quarter, it may boost the usually low numbers beyond expectations?

I know Apple never bothers to do things that are specifically targeted to please the share holders (especially not if such things would displease the customers), but one has to wonder…

    1. It’s fairly clear that the majority of Watches were ordered with black sport bands, and very few black sport bands have shipped yet.

There must have been a production issue with the black sport band – my guess would be the color didn’t come out right on the first batch and they needed to scrap them, then make new ones.

    2. Every WATCH that is sold is going to be sold in Apple’s 3Q FY2015 … 2Q ended 3/27/15 and is being reported today 4/27/15.

They’d have to delay shipments until after 6/27/15 if they want the revenue in 4Q FY15.

  3. I pre-ordered 5 minutes after pre orders went online and my credit card hasn’t been charged yet. Order still “Processing” with May 13-27 delivery date. Is anyone else’s order from that day still in “processing” status or has something gone wrong?

Usually when you pre order something from Apple, your credit card gets charged on the day of the official launch, so it seems weird that my order would still be processing and no charges hit my card yet.

    1. I got my 42mm SG WATCH SPORT order done by about 12:03-12:04am and missed the Friday cut. But Sunday afternoon I got email it shipped Air UPS expedited for delivery tomorrow. So you’re probably going to get it later this week.👀💥⌚️😃

      1. I saw this morning that my 42mm SS WATCH w/ black sport band moved to “preparing for shipment” over night.

Do you know where your’s shipped from? Someplace in the USA? Or from China?

    2. I ordered the 42mm SS Watch with black sport band, fairly quickly after the pre-order started. My ship date has remained set at 4/24 – 5/8. My order is still processing with no credit card charge.

  4. My 42mm stainless steel WATCH w/ black sport band finally changed status this morning to “Preparing for Shipment”. Verified that credit card used for purchase was also dinged as well.

I don’t see any reason to be holding the next wave of shipments so they arrive on a particular day … as “Launch Day” has already come and gone … so hopefully this goes out today from a domestic distribution center and gets delivered within a couple of days.
