“Samsung Electronics Co.’s newest high-end smartphones – the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge — are seen drawing less than expected attention from consumers, industry data showed Wednesday, casting clouds over the market’s upbeat sales estimate of over 50 million units for 2015,” Yonhap reports. “South Korea’s No. 1 tech giant had sold a little over 200,000 units of the two smartphones here as of Sunday since their launch on April 10, sharply falling short of the 300,000 preorders, according to the data, indicating that earlier sales forecasts may be exaggerated.”
“While mobile carriers’ subsidies for purchasing the two smartphones were no more than 210,000 won (US$193.90) upon the release, the carriers expanded the amount over the previous weekend, apparently reflecting the sluggish sales. The country’s maximum legal ceiling for handset subsidy currently stands at 330,000 won,” Yonhap reports. “‘We expect sales will improve soon, as the mobile carriers decided to increase subsidies on the Galaxy S6 series,’ a local handset retailer said.”

MacDailyNews Take: Aww, nobody, not even in your own back yard, wants iPhone knockoffs anymore.
Sleep tight, slavish copiers.
An iPhone with a larger screen option will hurt Samsung immeasurably more than myriad, unending traipses through the legal morass. – MacDailyNews Take, May 2, 2014
Apple grabbed 93% of the mobile industry’s profits in fourth quarter 2014.

When will carriers cut out subsidies for droid phones that do not sell? Is Gaagle subsidizing the carrier subsidy?
Karma is slow but steady.
New wrappers & advertising don’t make a new product. People eventually figure it out once they realize they have wasted their money.
I guess the people in South Korea know crap when they see it.
“sharply falling short of the 300,000 preorders, according to the data, indicating that earlier sales forecasts may be exaggerated.”
No! Really????
(smirks)
So, they only sold 200,000 of their 300,000 preorders?
In 10 Days!
I wonder how much the iPhone and the Google Nexus 6 are affecting the S6 sales. I wonder how this plays out for the Google / Samsung dynamic. When Google announces results tomorrow, if we see the “other”, non search category grow, this is going to piss off the partners that are seeing their handset profits and revenue shrink.
Is there such a thing as a Gaagle Nexus 6 for sale? I’ve never seen one at carrier store let alone someone using one.
I suppose that would also depend on what part of non-search grew.. For example, if it grew because other handset manufacturers put out more attractive handsets..
Very interesting that once the final attribute (phone size) was negated by , the only thing left for Samsung to do was to try to copy Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6+ to make their Android product supposedly “the best.” Fortunately, seeing that everyone now owns “the real deal”, what is one who is dependent on copying to do? I guess keep screaming that they are “shipping” 50 million units. Good luck with that “broken” strategy.
If it wasn’t for iPhone 6, that piece of shit would’ve been a global blockbuster, roaring through the industry. And I’d find myself a little jelly looking at that big screen. But now it’s like “Meh.”
Hahaha, that POS Copy Cat POS is failing in their own Home Town. Hahahaha 😛
The copycat doesn’t have the whole widget and will fail every time. Android OS is like Windows, a big mess with open to viruses and spyware and malware. No security, no standards, no organization. A free for all which usually ends in disaster as a user experience.
…Casting clouds….
Earlier sales forecasts may be exaggerated….
Sluggish sales…
