Why Google is the new evil empire

“We had AT&T in the 70s, IBM in the 80s, and the evil empire of the 90s was of course Microsoft and Bill ‘The Conqueror’ Gates,” Steve Tobak writes for FOXBusiness. “Today we have Google. Don’t let the geeky façade, whimsical multicolored logo and ‘don’t be evil’ mantra fool you. Google may very well be the most sinister threat and wicked incarnation of them all.”

“Hhow many lines does Google have to cross before its executives realize – before we realize – that they’re doing evil?” Tobak writes. “It’s easy to forget that Google once had a deep partnership with Apple. Then, while Steve Jobs mentored co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and Schmidt sat on Apple’s board of directors, Android magically transformed from a BlackBerry-like phone with a physical keyboard into an iPhone clone. And all the while – right up until the Federal Trade Commission forced Schmidt off Apple’s board on anticompetitive concerns – he maintained that Android did not compete with iPhone. A year later, Apple’s iPad was immediately followed by Android tablets which I’m sure were not competitors either.”

“Last month the Wall Street Journal obtained a 160-page report from the [U.S. FTC] trade agency’s bureau of competition that recommended the commission bring an antitrust suit against the search giant. It claimed Google’s actions have done and will continue to do ‘real harm to consumers and to innovation in the online search and advertising markets,'” Tobak writes. “And yet, the agency’s commissioners ultimately decided against and closed the investigation. Why? Could it be that Google was the second-largest donor to President Obama’s reelection campaign or that the company’s executives spend so much time at the White House that the administration is thinking of redoing the Green Room in Google’s multicolor scheme?”

MacDailyNews Take: Do know evil.

How long until “Android Gear” magically grows hooks for Digital Crowns, Taptic Engines, and Force Touch displays?

From the earliest days at Apple, I realized that we thrived when we created intellectual property. If people copied or stole our software, we’d be out of business. If it weren’t protected, there’d be no incentive for us to make new software or product designs. If protection of intellectual property begins to disappear, creative companies will disappear or never get started. But there’s a simpler reason: It’s wrong to steal. It hurts other people. And it hurts your own character. – Steve Jobs

    1. So the trolls hanging around are paid by gaagle, how about that! Thanks for putting this story up MDN. I wonder what they pay, can any trolls answer that or are you sitting in a cube in Mt View? Gaagle must be crapping their pants big time over the Apple Watch.

      1. I doubt that they’re “crapping their pants”. They likely see this as an opportunity to create something similar and try and improve on it. They’ve copied Apple before, and they’ll do it again. Apple did all the hard work, and now Google will attempt to reap the rewards.

  1. The last time I saw the stats a few years ago Google spent 9 times more money on political lobbying than Apple.

since then Apple has buffed up it’s PR dept. (but doubtlessly Google still outspends it by a wide margin).

    ——
how much money do people need? they have billions and yet felt the need to betray friends…

it’s even worse because they keep that ‘do no evil ‘ facade.

  2. The moral compass and evil of Google was on display by all to see when Eric Schmidt betrayed Apple & Steve Jobs trust with the iPhone. As a CEO you don’t sink much lower than stealing from friends.

As they sow so shall they reap.

  3. “Evil” is irrelevant. Google’s users are not customers. They are Google’s commodity. People who buy Android phones do not understand this obvious fact. Google’s (end-user) stuff is mostly “free,” so how does Google make money? By hijacking your eyeballs and collecting/analyzing/selling your personal data.

In contrast, Apple makes money primarily by selling hardware products. Apple’s services exist to enhance its customer’s experience (and loyalty), so customers continue to buy Apple’s hardware products. Annoying them is the opposite of what Apple desires. What Apple wants and what the customer wants are nicely aligned.

As a “user,” do I want a company that’s motivated (by profit) to make me happy, or one that’s motivated (by profit) to advertise to me and invade my privacy?

  4. It’s interesting how everyone seems to understand that Google is “evil” yet they keep using their free Gmail accounts. I use Google for search (most of the time), and I do so knowing that they track what people search for. I don’t have a problem with that. I would have a problem with Google using the content of my emails to find ways to market to me, so I won’t use Gmail. I’ve been paying for email hosting on my own private domains for over 12 years.

    1. I also use my own email service with my own domain name.

Its awesome, I give everyone their own destination email address, i.e. AmazonMail@MyDomain.Com, AppleMail@MyDomain.Com, BobMail@MyDomain.Com. It all just shows up in the catchall account.

Then if I get any spam or want to cut someone off, I just flag that address to auto trash. Its a fine tuned email permission system.

A personal domain level email program could do a lot of other great things. Get to work anonymous ambitious developer out there!

  5. Everyone talks about how they can’t wait to get Google Fiber in their town. Don’t these people realize that the only reason why Google is installing it is because then they have access to EVERYTHING you do on the Internet. They see ALL the traffic coming across their servers and can data mine at will. Without your knowledge. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they really were working with the NSA to collect info on millions of innocent people.
