“Zane Lowe, the BBC Radio 1 DJ, is to leave the network after 11 years for a job with Apple’s new iTunes radio service,” Ben Lawrence reports for The Telegraph.
“The 41-year-old New Zealander, who had a knack for promoting emergent talent on the airwaves (including the Arctic Monkeys, Adele and Ed Sheeran),” Lawrence reports, “will present his final show on the BBC on March 5. He will then move to America to take up his position at Apple.”
Lawrence reports, “Apple’s new service will incorporate Beats Music, the streaming service set up by Dr Dre, which the company bought last year for $3bn (£1.9bn).”

MacDailyNews Take: This is a rather disjointed report, conflating iTunes Radio with the forthcoming “iTunes Music” (née Beats Music) subscription service, but you get the gist.

At least we won’t have to hear him describe every Glastonbury/festival set as career defining, or life changing, or some other superlative nonsense.
Depends on what his new job is.
Apple has to be offering these guys something exciting and definitely not boring. Money could do it for some but doubt it would do it for the top ones.

Apparently been doing a lot of curation for the BBC of late. Looks like that is where his expertise will be exploited in the main.
If only Apple could reanimate John Peel…
I wonder if this could really be a competitor to Sirius/XM Radio, with shows hosted by real people, some all-music channels a la Pandora, etc. Perhaps all forms of radio reimagined and available on the Beats Music app . . . .
