Using AirDrop to transfer files between your Mac and iPhone, iPad

“AirDrop now works beautifully between a Mac and an iPhone, or a Mac and an iPad,” Jeff Benjamin reports for iDownloadBlog. “It’s a great way to make quick transmissions between local devices.”

“To use AirDrop, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi must be enabled on both devices, but the devices don’t have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network,” Benjamin reports. “You can manage AirDrop discovery on your Mac by clicking on the AirDrop folder in the Finder.”

“To send a file to your iPhone from your Mac, simply drag it on your iPhone’s icon in the AirDrop folder in the Finder,” Benjamin reports. “You can also use the share extensions found in OS X Yosemite to send files via AirDrop.”

  1. I’m hopeful. In iOS7 and Mavericks, I was completely unsuccessful in getting AirDrop to work. Fingers crossed. I’m waiting for 10.10.1 to come out, and then I’ll upgrade to both Yosemite and iOS 8. I’m patient about waiting out until the bug fixes arrive.

  2. AirDrop from iOS to Mac Compatibility

In OS X Yosemite you can now AirDrop from iPhone or iPad to Mac. This lets you quickly share a file from your iPhone to the Mac without using email or an upload service. It is incredibly convenient for users who routinely need to move files between Mac and iPhone or iPad.

You need one of these Macs to use this feature.

    MacBook Air (2012 or newer)
    MacBook Pro (2012 or newer)
    iMac (2012 or newer)
    Mac mini (2012 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)

    1. 1) Slide up Control Center, turn in Airdrop for everyone. Repeat for all airdrop devices.
      2) go to Photos (for example), select photo(s) then tap Output button (box with arrow heading out)
      3) tap Airdrop at top of share panel, then tap whoever you want to share with
