“I got my 5K iMac early this morning, and immediately migrated my data from my Mac Pro,” Kirk McElhearn writes for Kirkville. “My first impressions of this Mac are simply this: Wow!”
“This display is simply amazing. If you’re thinking of getting this iMac for the display, you have to see it; it will blow you away,” McElhearn writes. “Finally, with a display like this, computing is moving to a new level. When you work on a computer all day long, as I do, especially with text, it should look like this.”
“The display is also very bright,” McElhearn writes. “With my Thunderbolt display, I usually had the brightness at the highest setting (during the day); with the iMac, I’ve got it about two thirds of the way up.”

I have to concur. I went into the Oxford Street store in London today and the display is absolutely incredible.
Personally, I have no actual need for a 5K display, however when you spec up the iMac retina vs the previous 27 inch, the price difference is pretty negligible. That being the case, for anybody looking to buy a 27 inch iMac, buying the Retina version is an absolute no-brainer.
Buy if for no other reason than it’s simply kinder on the eyes like the Retina Display iPhones & iPads. Look forward to seeing the 5K iMac in person.
Saw it tonight at the local Apple Store – FABulous! Now if only 5K standalone Apple monitors were available for the Mac Pro users. The sales guy at the store says it remains to be seen if Apple still wants to be in the monitor market anymore. And this guy used to be a Hollywood editor. (I find lots of industry types now working in Apple Stores at a slightly reduced paycheck and level of prestige.)
I’m afraid to go look at one. I might decide I have to buy it.
Hilarious! At 1:06 to 1:10 is how I feel.
Hhahahaah! That guy is hilarious!
See. Apple really is evil. Their products are so good that they compel you to buy even if you had no need or desire to before seeing them.
I thought I would never buy another desktop. I have the 2002 Quicksilver running in my office………..soon to be replaced by the new iMac 5k Retina
