Massive iPhone, iPad uptake looms: Apple+IBM deal could reach 42 million new users

“Apple’s partnership with IBM may well be one of the more lucrative technology deals of the year, if two Wall Street analyst’s numbers are correct,” Zack Whittaker reports for ZDNet. “Jefferies analysts Sundeep Bajikar and Mark Lipacis said in a note to investors on Friday that the partnership, said to be strategic rather than a financial deal, could bring in 42 million new users for Apple.”

“That could amount to tens of billions of dollars worth of iPhone and iPad sales over the course of the next year, which, by any account would give the iPad the boost is needs — particularly in the enterprise,” Whittaker reports. “Both companies win, and win big. Apple shines out of the deal, as it further lures enterprise customers towards snapping up the iPad in the business world.”

    1. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Partnership deals like these take months, if not years to play out. It’s not a new product launch. The partnership involves the development of hundreds if not thousands of apps and utilities. Countless numbers of deals. Tons of man-hours of training.

To view this as, “it was announced, so why no results?” is short-sighted. Business partnerships don’t work that way.

  1. What about Microsoft and their deep pockets? Look how their shoving their tablet down the throats of the players in the NFL. I can see some ITO’s saying, nobody ever got fired going with Microsoft. Microsoft will make them an offer they can’t refuse. They’ll make deals Apple would never dream of, just to get their foot in the door. Hope I’m wrong.

      1. To elaborate there is no sign anyone is taking them seriously in the mobile space, meanwhile fewer and fewer are even taking them seriously on the desktop and if you have seen the early Win 10 demos you will see why it’s embarrassing.

  2. I am really curious about the Apple-IBM projects and what they are bring to the tables of both companies. My first impression of the announcement was that it had the potential to be gargantuan. It’s not getting much press, however, that’s likely because what they are up to is under lock and key because others would rip off cheesy versions and get them to market early to foil Apple.
