“After years of rumors that Apple would introduce its own type of SIM card, it appears to have snuck the tech into today’s new iPad announcement (there’s a history here, the original iPad introduced the Micro SIM),” Richard Lawler reports for Engadget.
“The Apple website says LTE-equipped models of its new tablets (sold in the US and UK) have a built-in Apple SIM that lets owners switch between short term plans across a variety of participating carriers, right on the tablet itself (you can see a picture of the new option under settings after the break),” Lawler reports. “That list includes AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint in the US, and EE in the UK, [b]ut notably not Verizon.”

Can you easily switch back and forth between carriers? I have been using the free 200 MB from TMobile and when that is gone, I have been switching my SIM card to AT&T and using my normal allotment there. Can I do this switching on the fly now without having to switch my SIM cards? Let’s hope so…
So where was the live streaming Apple feed??? Never saw anything happen on Apple.com. Just sat there telling me to watch the live feed. This is twice in a row.
I watched the whole thing on Apple’s page. Not a single glitch or hitch in the video. And no Mandarin Chinese translation going on in the background either.

I watched it LIVE on my iPhone 4S using Safari dialed into the Apple website events page, work wifi connection, in my comfy design office … sweeeeet.
It was linked from the home page. Kind of hard to miss.
i watched it via Apple TV on my television. flawless, i didn’t even turn on my iPad.
Did you refresh the page? I almost got fooled myself, expecting the video to just pop up on the page without any action on my part. But I figured out the problem just before the Event began. Watched the show on my iPhone 5 with my DSL connection.
What planet are you on because here on Earth there was a simple click to activate it and it worked perfectly not even a hesitation. Get your facts right before engaging mouth we have enough FUD to deal with without generating more by simply not taking a correct action and automatically blaming others.
I managed to listen to it while driving from South Carolina to Ohio. I was amazed at how well it streamed over cell data connection. Video worked fine but obviously I did not watch it while driving, just listened.
This is going to sound stupid, but what’s the point? Sounds like you’d need to subscribe to a few different plans to get the best experience. If you could get pay-as-you-go that would be different. TIA for the enlightenment.
I’m thinking it would work well when you travel surely where you need to access other local plans.
Hopefully eventually Apple won’t have to make iPads and iPhones for each carrier. This will reduce their cost and will make it easier for us to get the model we want.
This is great. Hopefully Apple can convince VZW to get on board. Unfortunately I don’t see that happening soon. Verizon loves to lag behind the rest of the market. They just use the claim of having the best network as an excuse for not making risky moves.
