“Oscar-winner Christian Bale, who has played Batman and Moses, is about to take on another iconic figure: Steve Jobs,” Justin Kroll reports for Variety.
“Sources confirm the actor is in talks to star in ‘Jobs,’ Sony’s biopic about the late Apple co-founder,” Kroll reports. “Based on Walter Isaacson’s biography ‘Steve Jobs,’ the real-life drama is directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin.”
“Sorkin has publicly said the movie will be divided into three long scenes, each taking place backstage before one of Apple’s famous product launches. ‘The first one being the Mac,’ he told the Daily Beast. ‘The second one being NeXT, after he had left Apple. And the third one being the iPod,’ Kroll reports. “Insiders say Bale would likely shoot ‘Jobs’ in the spring.”

No please. It’s nice that they both know/knew how to be viciously cutting and sarcastic and have/had speech impediments. But I just don’t see Bale acting like/as Jobs. Nonetheless, I wish him well.
I do see Bale acting as Jobs — or, more correctly, I see no one else more capable than him doing it.
However, Bale is not real issue of this film, the source material is. As it was already said here many times, Walter Isaacson intentionally chose to make a cardboard “evil genius” caricature of Jobs, because such contrasting image is more scandalous and it sells better.
As result of this decision, instead of making honest biography Isaacson has left out tens of stories of Jobs’ humanity, he literally stripped him away of it. This portrayal he created in the biography is inaccurate. During marketing campaign it even came to the point when Jobs’ widow had to release statement correcting Isaacson’s manipulation about Jobs’ attitude and actions towards cancer in 2004 (Isaacson has tried to portray Jobs as insane for not rushing immediately to surgery, while in reality the type of cancer Jobs had was said to be very slow, usually not spreading or even growing for years and years; and, Jobs did not just eat grass, he has consulted with doctor teams across the world in the months before finally going to surgery — Isaacson “forgot” to mention those facts in his PR tour).
Another issue is that even if the source material would be correct, then you have to understand that Job’s life was so epic and dramatic that any slice of it that could fit in just one film might very well be very incomplete and narrowing.
Unless you go for a two-part film (does not work on anything but blockbuster fantasies), you have to pick and choose carefully. I honestly would not to be the screenwriter here.
I have doubts about a biopic of Steve, not because SJ is not uniques and creative and a genius in what long term vision he had.
I doubt I will see the film because Hollywood putting it on film means they will emphasize & exaggerat on sex, booze, drugs, yelling, action and intrigue which were not the things which made Steve a success.

F*ck yeah! Bring it on. But also, would like to see them draw the lines of how early Steve become new Steve, and the line from being kicked of Mac OS -> building Next Step -> saving Mac OS X (and in implication iOS).
Its not often that threads like that individual people and technologies interleave across multiple decades like that. Steve’s life would sound corny with coincidence if he was a fictional character.

YES! Thank heavens, I knew it would be Bale. I said from the very beginning that only Bale could do this and now R2’s dreams are coming true. Oh this will be Bale’s best performance yet. Everyone will see this movie.
It would be hard to top his performance in “3:10 to Yuma”

And his performance in “American Hustle”!!!?
But in his greatest performance, ‘Empire and the Sun’, he plays a child so convincingly that I actually BELIEVED he was just a kid……

Won’t see the movie, no matter how good Christian Bale is. What Steve accomplished is still bigger and better than any book or play or movie Isaacson or Sorkin could write.
Also, as a practical matter, why even see a movie about Steve? We’re not talking about a biopic of Ben Franklin or Albert Einstein, both of them distant historical figures. If you want to see the real Steve Jobs, pick a year. There’s something featuring him only a click away. And unlike a biographer or playwright, there’s nobody between you and him.
