No Retina MacBook Air at Apple’s October 16th special event

Apple may well have a new MacBook Air with Retina Display in the pipeline, but it’s not going to unveil it this week,” John Paczkowski reports for Re/code.

“Sources familiar with Apple’s plans tell me that the company’s latest reimagining of the ultralight laptop won’t be shown off at its Thursday event,” Paczkowski reports.

MacDailyNews Take: Tim Cook looked backward in order to learn a lesson: No repeat of the iMac debacle where, just ahead of Christmas 2012, Apple announced a product, made it available for ordering, and then had none to ship for three months. Even if it misses Christmas, it’s better to hold off and announce the MacBook Air with Retina display when Apple has enough units ready to go and customers won’t have to wait too long for the product. Apple has enough products for this Christmas anyway, with new iPhones rolling out plus new iPads and a new iMac HD rumored to be unveiled this week.
