“A new report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), a Chicago-based market research firm, says that 13 percent of all iPhones sold in the U.S. in the quarter that ended last month were iPhone 6 Pluses,” Timothy Stenovec reports for The Huffington Post.
“The percentage of iPhone 6 Pluses sold is especially high given that the phone, along with its smaller sibling, the iPhone 6, was on sale for fewer than two weeks of the quarter, which ran from late June through late September. The phones went on sale in the U.S. on Sept. 19,” Stenovec reports. “‘The phone bending, I think, was a non-issue,’ Mike Levin, a partner at CIRP, told The Huffington Post in an interview. ‘Bending iPhones was a nuisance and a distraction that detracted from what was otherwise a very successful product introduction. And the data shows it.'”
“Levin added that the numbers for the 6 Plus are even more impressive given that Apple faced supply constraints. The phone was backordered hours after it became available for preorder, and it was sold out in some Apple stores the weekend of the launch,” Stenovec reports. “The iPhone 6, which has a 4.7-inch screen, fared even better than the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, comprising 33 percent of all iPhones sold in the most recent quarter.”

MacDailyNews Take: Bending was particularly weak FUD from desperate, frightened rivals.
Also, there is no way to determine which is more popular, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, until adequate supplies of both models are available worldwide.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Edward W.” for the heads up.]
Interestingly, there was no mention in the Huffington Post piece that they were one of the big publicizers of the original “bending” video.
Because they suck balls and write hit pieces to garner traffic/revenue. They’re not a reliable news source. Did I mention they suck balls?
“Did I mention they suck balls?”
Lol…. Well, yeah you did. And it’s no surprise, ’cause they do…. kind of suck balls.
Go Apple!
I’m so with all those wishing to erase the suffix “gate” from humanity’s egregious f-ups. I recommend “U2,” as in BendU2, or AntennaU2, etc.
I’d vote for arse. As in antenna-arse, map-arse or bend-arse.
It’s honest and clearly represents where the idea originated from.
Please excuse the question from an old man: but what is, “FUD?”
Fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
Many thanks
Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt.
F*cked Up Debacle
Since the tactics appear not to have any measureable effect whatsoever upon sales, I propose to change the acronym to mean Facing Utter Defeat.
FUD is an ancient form of coercion. It came to the fore in the 20th century as a branch of propaganda. It remains THE default form of propaganda today because it is dirt easy to invent and apply to anything. It’s the idiot’s marketing strategy. Witness current political advertising as well as political ‘talk’ radio/TV programs.
Here’s a fun article I found specific to technology FUD:
WHAT IS FUD?
I thought it was Fat Useless Dickhead. A term of endearment commonly applied to Ballmer by Microsoft employees.
That term of endearment fits Symantec with ‘Fat’ applicable to their heads. It was specifically their anti-Apple security FUD in 2005 that got me interested in researching computer security. Thanks Fat heads!
Real bending hidden from view, infuriated Chairman Lee bending his product managers into pretzels.
If Watergate did not happen, what would these manufactured “scandals” be called? 🙂
Bend-ghazi?
Bend-winsky?
Bend-over?
I guess that you are very familiar with that term by now, eh matey?
It’s scary to think what Apple’s share price would be if the company wasn’t selling almost unimaginable numbers of iPhone 6s. Probably down around $85 or $90. It appears Apple will have to step up sales much further to break $101. With Apple, it’s like trying to make an anvil float on water.
From Bendgate, to Irish tax dodging or ruining Finland’s economy, the media negativity about Apple never ceases. There aren’t too many companies which stir so much ire from so many people and yet no product defect ever killed anyone. No massive product recalls, no toxic spills, no massive firings and yet the hate continues unabated. The company merely sells tech products. It’s quite unbelievable.
Not sure the Finland story goes with the rest, that’s just short-sighted bad business decisions on their part. I won’t mourn more trees being cut down in Finland because of the iPad in any event.
I thought the issue with Finland’s forestry business was that not enough trees are now being chopped down and that’s Apple’s fault.
Bad for Finland’s economy, but not so bad for the planet.
I own 6 plus! It is fantastic:)
i should have bought the plus
Yes, you should have. A lot of early adopters are saying the same thing.
Now that bendgate is over, it is time to bend over for the purveyors of FUD
Time for the purveyors of FUD to bend over …
Nice try benders but people just ain’t that stupid it seems. Bent anals lose again.
Not joking: Next year, when the next iPhone comes out, we should try to predict what bullsh*t FUD “-gate” scandal will be whipped up for that model.
