Apple hopes to power iPad sales surge with new models

“Apple hopes to give slowing iPad sales a push with new models for the holiday shopping season,” Patrick Seitz reports for Investor’s Business Daily. “”

“The Cupertino, Calif.-based company sent out invites Wednesday for an Oct. 16 media event at its corporate headquarters. The typically cryptic invite reads, ‘It’s been way too long.’ While Apple isn’t tipping its hand, analysts expect the company to unveil new iPads at the event,” Seitz reports. “Apple is also expected to use the event to show off its latest Mac desktop and notebook computers running on Mac OS X Yosemite software, the Apple news site 9to5Mac reported.”

“Apple’s iPad sales have fallen on a year-over-year basis for two consecutive quarters,” Seitz reports. “Wall Street analysts speculate that the new, large-screen iPhone 6 Plus, with its 5.5-inch display, could cannibalize sales of the iPad Mini, which has a 7.9-inch screen.”

  1. yes yes yes

But it is the ApplePay which will be available with the release iOS 8.1. Having said that; Apple may want to do a separate event just for ApplePay and keep this event for ipad/mac, ios/osx integration, and AppleTv/Homekit

  2. I’m most excited about 802.11ac to go with my 2013 Apple Airport Time Capsule router. Touch ID with Apple Pay will be helpful. Plus thinner lighter faster is always a good thing. I’m presold on both new iPads plus a third if the 12.9″ iPad Extreme ships too.

    1. Thinner lighter faster is definitely NOT a better thing if it comes at the expense of battery life or durability. Would you be disappointed if Apple kept the exact same thickness and instead improved all the other measurable performance measures? No, everyone would be ecstatic. Ive can stop making things so damn thin any time now.

      1. Funny Paul, Apple devices continue to get thinner and Apple remains strong on keeping the life of the battery set to 10 hours of use. So, FutureMedia is quite fine thinking and dreaming of thinner devices.

  3. … analysts speculate – iPhone 6 Plus, could cannibalize sales of the iPad Mini?

With an iPad mini containing A8 and M8 processors and touch id and maybe a Micro SD slot… we shall see if the smaller screen cannibalizes the iPad… or… if Apple simply added true telephone capability to the iPad mini, they’d have yet another size Phone… and I think a balance would arrive — not cannibalizing anything…. stirring up the consumers choices.
