“Apple Inc. has been selling so many iPhone 6 units it has been forced to delay deliveries,” Jennifer Booton reports for MarketWatch. “This Friday, the iPhone 6 will launch in the world’s largest consumer market, China, where demand is so high one analyst called it ‘insatiable.'”
“A report from Chinese news site Tencent reported Friday that Apple had received 4 million reservations for the iPhone 6. That’s not to be confused with actual preorders, but it nevertheless is a massive number hinting at the potential in China. To give some perspective, Apple last month said it sold a record 10 million phones in its first weekend across all of its launch markets,” Booton reports. “‘If Apple sells 10 million in its first weekend world-wide without China, and now China by itself wants 4 million? Hold on to your hats,’ said Ramon Llamas, a research manager of smartphones at IDC.”
“Of course, having too much demand and hype isn’t a bad thing if the company and its long list of suppliers and manufacturers can keep pace with it, which most analysts believe can be done,” Booton reports. “‘Nobody on [Apple’s supply] chain is saying there’s going to be a shortage,’ Llamas said. ‘Don’t underestimate Apple — this market is going to keep churning well into and past the holidays.'”

Wow, impressive!.
After midnight in Beijing and the sum of the reservations is increasing at a rate of about 26,000 per hour.

Apple posting record preorders & record sales weeks after the unveiling and Samsung are expected to post a loss in their phone business this quarter. Everything seems right in the tech world atm
I didn’t think I’d want a bigger screen until I used a few iPhone 6s. I have yet to see, in person, a 6+, but the 6 has a really nice sized screen. Not in a rush to get rid of my iPhone 5s, mind you, but I know the 6s will be spectacular. 😀

Was at the Apple Store today to fix an iOS 8 upgrade issue and spent my wait time trying out the new iPhones. The Plus is nice, but I would use it as a small tablet, not a smartphone. I have small hands and even the regular 6 is too big for comfort. I may stick with my 5 a little longer.

I believe you are correct, and once IDC analysts become bullish on Apple’s sales you know the sun is beginning to set on Samsung…
According to my calculations, it looks like around 800,000 iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been activated per day over the last week. This is without China and 120 or so other countries. According to mixpanel.com, on Sunday, October 6th 2013 the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c represented 4.6% of all activated iPhones. On Sunday, October 5, 2014 the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus represent 7.35% of all activated iPhones. Keep in mind that the total amount of iPhones in use has significantly increased from October 2013 to October 2014. So, it appears production and demand this year is much greater than previous years.
In addition, the 7.35% penetration was reached around Sunday, October 27, 2013 last year. Considering that the base has expanded, it appears the number of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus activations is almost a month ahead of last year’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c activations. This is incredible.
