“The mysterious invitation was indeed for the Apple Watch,” Benjamin Mayo reports for 9to5Mac.
“For the public, the Apple Watch demo units are all shielded by their glass cases. Select members of press attending the ‘show’ can try on the Watch, albeit the screen is still just playing a mocked-up video of the user interface,” Mayo reports. “Apple execs and celebrities are in attendance, such as Jony Ive and Marc Newson and members of the fashion industry like Sarah Andelman, Colette’s CEO and Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour.”
“It’s still unclear why Apple chose Colette as its demo location, over any other high-fashion retailer. It was speculated that perhaps Colette would sell the Apple Watch in its store, but there has been no announcement (yet) of such a deal,” Mayo reports. “Nevertheless, the event has proven popular, with avid customers forming a long line before the shop even opened.”

As Anna Wintour looks on with envy…
🙂
These fashion moguls are way out of my comfort zone. Maybe they don’t give Jony the creeps.
Exactly! Not sure I understand Apple’s need to bond with high fashion big wigs. Perhaps if there is much more to come in the wearables space, these types will feel more comfortable incorporating the new things (like, they were part of it from the beginning) – but a fairly thick high tech watch that has no diamonds?
How can a “mocked up video” be considered a “personalized demo”?
E.g. if you are too thick to spot the difference….
😉
If I am interpreting the article correctly, the Apple Watches available for the media to try on have a mocked-up video interface. There is no reason to believe that Jony does not have the real thing in his hands.
I do understand that Apple has working models but what makes a video a personal demo is my point.
The ones in the glass boxes are for viewing only and play a demo. The ones Jony is showing people himself is the real deal, as in, the real deal that exists today.
I guess I missed that part.
If they still only have demo-units that play re-recorded video, they do have a lot of work ahead of them until January….
However, if they’re just still trying to protect some of what they don’t want people playing with and then talking about, it makes perfect sense.
