Apple has just released iOS 8 and Apple TV Software Update 7.0.
Apple’s iOS 8 contains hundreds of new features, including the following:
• Messages improvements
– Tap to Talk to send your voice, a video or a photo with just a swipe
– Group messaging options to name a conversation, add a contact, remove a contact, or leave a conversation
– New details view with Do Not Disturb, location sharing and attachments view
• Photos improvements
– Smart editing tools to adjust light and color with a swipe
– Fine-tune controls to adjust exposure, brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows and more
– Search by date, location, or album name or use smart suggestions
– Smart albums for Slo-mo videos, Bursts, Panoramas, and Time-lapse
– Third-party photo filters and editing tools supported directly in Photos
– Your photos and metadata from iPhoto will be migrated to Photos. Books, Journals and Slideshows will be converted to albums containing only photos. iPhoto for iOS is not supported on devices running iOS 8 or later.

– Adjust exposure with a simple nudge to lighten or darken a photo prior to capture

iOS 8 is available for iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display via iTunes or OTA.
Apple TV Software Update 7.0 “brings a refreshed design with thinner text and flatter icons bringing it more in line with iOS’s look and feel,” Zac Hall reports for 9to5Mac. “The update also includes a newly added Beats Music channel for the subscription streaming music service Apple purchased earlier this year.”
Hall reports, “In addition to user interface refinements, icon refreshes, and Family Sharing support, the latest version of Apple TV’s software delivers iCloud Photo Library support to users taking advantage of the new feature from iOS 8.”

Please, it’s been getting better over time. It’s no different. Pod casts have been integrated I think for a while, but may be that happened in Beta 2. But anyway, it’s SOOOOO much better than it used to be.
Downloaded fine here as well, even with my crappy Time Warner connection. Half way through installing now… looking forward to playing with it.

Predictive typing rules. I like it way better than the old spelling correction – seems much more intuitive – I barely have to type 2 letters of a word before it gets it (and lots of time 0 letters).

I won’t be upgrading my iPhone until Yosemite is out. iOS devices won’t sync to a Mavericks iTunes app.

You’re correct breeze. Once I upgraded iTunes to 11.4 it synced fine with my iOS 8 devices.
After posting this I discovered iTunes 11.4 in Mavericks syncs fine with iOS 8 devices.
So the update is 5.8GB OTA, and I have only 3.3GB left on a 16GB 5s. Apple really needs to find a way to slim down these updates. For the 16GB phones at least. Now I have to delete half the stuff on my phone in order to update. That is Riduculous.
Actually, the update is 1.1 GB but requires 5.8 GB to be free. This might just be the OTA update. I’m going to plug it into the comp. and see later.

I updated my iPad air and now the MDN app crashes. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. (Okay, okay, just kidding about the feature bit) I see the side bar but when I select something is crashes.

Looking at an article.. intend of just going back to the list of articles… I have to go back, back, back, back, back… through a TON of articles JUST so I can get the the article ABOVE the one I was at.
Annoying as Hell.
My work around for this annoyance is to force quit the app, then restart it. It then loads all the new articles list properly, until the next time, of course.
Apparently, iOS 8 requires over 5GB of free space on the phone to install. For us with the base iPhone models (16GB), that requires a lot of deletion (music, personal video, even some apps, such as GarageBand). While it isn’t too big of a deal, it is a hassle.
As a fan and a supporter, I started the download of the update within the first two hours of release (1pm EDT). The more of us do this right away, the more bragging rights Apple will have about the rate of adoption, and the less there will be fragmentation. Now if we could only convince those stubborn holdouts who are still on iOS6…

The build is 12A365, the last available beta became public today, for Beta Users there is no update available. Everything’s just fine, so far.
I recommend the 10.10 public beta #3 (yosemite) at https://imzdl.com, no issues occurred within one week of real life test.

Thoughts and suggestions:
1. Wait. Seriously. There will be the inevitable rush to download, causing slow bandwidth and general fanboy chaos/hysteria/apocalypse. Or so it will seem on Twitter and the fanboy Internet.
2. Did I mention wait? Here’s why:
A) iOS 8 will be great. But you likely won’t benefit as much as when the developers of the apps you’re using on your iPhone and iPad are updated to take advantage of it, and that will take a week or two at least.
B) Bugs. In the next couple of weeks, bugs will be reported by Apple and 3rd party developers. It’s possible that the versions of the apps you use right now might break or be buggy. Dropbox, for example, announced a problem with its current version and iOS 8. Surely that will be fixed soon, but it’s a good example of what might happen when you jump the gun. Waiting a week or two for updates and fixes is a smart idea.
C) iOS 8 is designed to work with OS-X 10.10 Yosemite, which has not been released – yet. It’s sure to have an update too. Adding to this, iCloud needs an update as well, and if you move too fast, bad things will happen if you try to start using iCloud Drive. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
3. BACK UP. NOW. There are articles on a number of sites on how to do this via iCloud and iTunes. BEFORE GOING TO iOS 8, BACK UP. Or be prepared for the potential consequences.

I practically never get a .0 version of anything. About the last .0 version of anything I remember getting was System and Finder 1.0. There was no waiting on that. 🙂

Did not do iPhone since iphone 6 arrives Friday……
Tried it for fun on iPhone 4S, it looked like download would work, but in the morning it still showed iOS7.1. So, we will stay on that on all the 5 iOS devices. Not much luck updating in China. All the gear we use outside the house are Android anyway, very cheap “all you can eat family data plan” you know.
