“You’ll notice a few new apps (and less available storage) on your new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus later this week when you fire it up for the first time,” Dan DeSilva reports for 9to5Mac.
“According to an internal Apple Retail training document (seen below), iOS 8 compatible iLife and iWork apps will come pre-installed on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus,” DeSilva reports. “This includes iMovie, GarageBand, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and iTunes U. Owners of the 16GB models of Apple’s newest smartphones will still have access to these apps for free, but they must be downloaded from the App Store manually or via an App Store prompt.”

MacDailyNews Note: Yes, you can delete them if you wish.
Can Android match that?
Of course it can, are u kidding?. Samsung is planning to have the newest malware installed on every new smartphone and tablet.
Hehe, most amusing! 👍
They already have that built-in
sLife and sWork
When I restore, won’t they get deleted anyway?
So it’s a bummer I will have redownload them.
But are they able to be deleted?
I have zero use for keynote for example..
Granted we are talking 500mb but still. I have always disliked newsstand, at least it can now be put in a folder.
“MacDailyNews Note: Yes, you can delete them if you wish.”
wasn’t there earlier, or wasn’t on the MDN app.
Complaints from all those that complained about U2 in 1..2..3..
Good one!!!
This is a big deal for me. I think that such a move sweetens a already great iPhone.
What other company gives you things by default only on devices with tons of storage? Is that a first? (Not getting them on the 16GB models…)
That’s a joke, right? PCs have shipped for decades with lots of bloatware. Personally, I think this is probably a bad idea. They should instead provide a single link that lets people download these apps if they want them. One of Apple’s differentiators from the Phone Company provided phones is that Apple doesn’t lard it up with bloatware. I think Apple’s software is better than bloatware as none of them are demos. Still, I’m not going to compose music or do a spreadsheet on my phone. Others might. But deleting things on iOS is really simple and there’s a LOT of space on these things, so it’s not a big deal. But they are in some danger of losing the perception that they don’t bog you down with bloatware.
There is a fundamental difference between bloadware (also known as crapware) and what Apple did on high-capacity iPhones.
Bloatware usually slows the device down, as it installs various services that run in the background.
None of the iLife / iWork apps run in the background on iOS. However, they are very practical when user receives a Word, PowerPoint or Excel file.
So if it is preinstalled, does that mean when you register your iPhone6/6+ (64/128)GB it will at the same time automatically add iLife and iWork to your iTunes account? If not how will iTunes know they need to be updated on your phone when they are updated in the store?

Yes.
Apple announced this last year when they announced the iPhone 5S/5C.

Same for new mac purchases.
They are just pre installing them with the 64-128gb iPhone 6/6+
These apps are available for free like they are now for all new Macs, iPhone and iPad now.
Of course, what else would a giant phone display be for? : iWork and iLife. The only pointful reason for a BIG phone is do stuff that’s too awkward on a small phone.
