“I had been leaning towards pre-ordering the iPhone 6 and being done with it, but I decided at the last minute to wait. Because I’ve seriously been thinking about getting the iPhone 6 Plus instead,” Cohen writes. “And that’s when I realized that paper cutouts might help me figure out if the iPhone 6 Plus would fit in my pocket, but they weren’t going to give me a clear idea of what actually wielding either phone on a daily basis is going to be like.”
“I want to actually hold the phones in my hand before committing to getting one. I want to use them both for a little bit to see what I’m going to be more comfortable with,” Cohen writes. “This year, Apple’s decision to offer two distinctly different models presents us with a unique problem as iPhone customers — choice… Sometimes choice can create uncertainty, as it has for me…”

I’m in the same boat. Originally I figured the Plus would be to big, but now I’m really thinking of getting it, as long as it will fit in my pocket.
I have two cardboard cutouts in my packet. Made them a couple days ago. 6+ is not as big as I thought and fits in my pockets. But I gotta feel ’em first, too.

The iPhone is a very personal device and it’s going to be in your pocket for the next 2 years. You’ll live even if you have to wait another month.
Maybe “the next 2 years” for you commoners. I and many others upgrade to every single new iPhone every single year. :p
Going to waitify it. I expect it will be the 6, but If I wait a month or two, so what? AAPL will still be in business.
Thought I would wait too, but excitement got the better of me. Sigh.
Which one did you pick?
We printed off actual size templates from Apple.com, zooming in on the 5s image. The 6 Plus just seems too big. I also have always carried my phone in my back pocket. That might be a problem with both–but I’m sure it would be an issue with the 6 Plus.
The 6 is bigger than the 5s that may be enough real estate for me
Paul Deneve, Angela Ahrendts should be telling Apple to sell a range nice jeans, jackets etc with big but unobtrusive pockets….

I own a travel vest with 17 pockets, one of them designed to hold a full-sized iPad. They are meant to replace the purse. They make them for men too, with 24 pockets (men carry more stuff 😉 )

Don’t you find that it makes you look bulky and lumpy? What about a Doc for your iPad and some tissue for Sneezy? Does it have room for all the dwarfs?
If this is true there are a lot of people holding out to hold one – The sales numbers re going to be huge…er then anyone could have predicted…
He’s right. Everyone says “choice” is a good thing, but Apple knows that the opposite is often true, especially when it comes to sales and customer satisfaction after the sale.
Apple’s practice has been to limit choice. Steve Jobs took care of a key Apple problem, when he returned. Mismanaged Apple of the 1990’s had dozens of Mac models, some only differing in their confusing names. Most of Apple’s competitors still employ the practice of producing unnecessary “choice” for customers, with confusing product names.
Previous iPhones made the customer’s BUY decision easy. Pick a color, pick a storage capacity, done. Those options are just secondary considerations. But it NOW; be happy! Now, screen size is an option, and it’s NOT secondary. The result is more customers who cannot decide right away, and they defer the BUY decision to a later date. And after the sale, there will be more customers who return their iPhone because they changed their mind (not happy with choice) and want the OTHER option.
And I’m chiming in here, and I know many others, who will be waiting to actually handle one of these new iPhones before making _any_ decisions. This is unique in my experience with Apple.
Apple now still does limit the choice, but wrong way. They do not make 4″ flagman any more, which is a shame. I don’t want 4.7″ phone, let alone 5.5″. I understand that there is no way to make 4″ device thinner than iPhone 5/S already it, but it does not matter; 7.6 mm thickness is totally fine by me. I want the smallest and lightest flagman. Now there is no choice other than last years’ model. 🙁
I think a “new” iPhone with a 4-inch screen will be back, in about two years, just as the iPhone 5S ends its three-year run. It will be a “new” model, in addition to the latest larger models. iPhone Air. Or iPhone 5X. The current drove of iPhone 6 and 6+ customers will also have expiring contracts at about that time, and I think a significant number will realize that they miss their old “small” iPhones that fit comfortably in front pants pocket, and did not feel and look awkward being held to the side of their head.
It would be really nice if Apple could at least provide a couple display models to official Apple Stores before pre-order day.
It would be, however as a former fruit stander no touch until 5 am on launch day.
I knew better but now I’m in upgrade/pre-order hell because I magically woke up at 2:03 without an alarm even and had a wild idea to be the first to get my phone! NOT!!!!!!!!! HELP ME!!!!!!! Shipment day from AT&T is showing ’10/31/2014 – 11/11/2014.” My birthday gift to myself it turning more into a Thanksgiving gift. I wonder if there’s something I can pull to stop this train so I can get off!

I’m with you on this. I’m going to finish out my contract so I’m not in line to get either 6 but if I were I’d want to hold the Plus first. Pretty sure I want the smaller phone but nothing beats hands-on experience.
So, I use the patterns to make mock-ups out of cardboard, which gives me a sense of the depth as well and allows me to put them into my pockets, etc. Having said that, there’s still nothing like holding the real thing in one’s hands and using it.
My contract ends next month. We plan to give our old iPhones to our son and daughter.
The iPhone 6Plus is only .66 inches wider than previous iPhones… for me it is going to be more comfortable as holding my current phone cramps my hand. Don’t worry so much and go for the Plus – it is a no brainer.
I’m in the same boat. I’m ready to change out my iPhone 4s for this new version but not knowing if the 6 or the 6+ is just right (think Goldilocks) without having the real thing in hand to play with makes pre-ordering sketchy. Also if you’re a phone case user as I am, choosing a case style that fits your needs in lieu of the larger size of either phone is tricky given you don’t even have the phone size picked yet. Too, some case manufactures seem to not make a case for the 6+ or at least make different styles for each. Maybe case style availability and the ultimate carry-ability of the 6/6+ will dictate which direction I go.
I agree. I’d like to feel them in my hands too.
Also, landscape mode on the Plus looks fantastic. That feature could tip it for me.
there is a 14 day return period for an iPhone. just buy one, if it’s not the size you want, go back and get the other one.
