iPhones with larger displays, iWatch start the clock on Apple’s amazing product spree

“Apple’s event, to be held Tuesday at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts near its corporate headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., is already one of the most-hyped launches Apple has ever had,” Shara Tibken reports for CNET. “Apple CEO Tim Cook will step on to the same stage where Apple co-founder Jobs unveiled the Macintosh computer in 1984 and the candy-colored iMac computer, designed by a team led by Ive, in 1998. The venue seats more than 2,300 attendees, and Apple has spent the last month building a large white structure outside the building that will likely serve at the demonstration center for its new products.”

“Apple on Tuesday is expected to update its top moneymaker, the iPhone, adding larger displays to the smartphone,” Tibken reports. “Company watchers expect two versions of the so-called iPhone 6 — with displays measuring 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches — that take the design beyond the current 4-inch display in last year’s iPhone 5s.”

“Apple’s first wearable device, already dubbed the iWatch by fans, is believed to come in two sizes, have a curved screen made of the super clear, super tough sapphire glass already used in most of the world’s premium watches, and include a near-field communication (NFC) chip to enable mobile payments and easy pairing with other devices — starting with the iPhone,” Tibken reports. “If Apple’s chief designer is right — Jony Ive reportedly boasted about the design work on the iWatch, saying that Switzerland is in trouble — Apple may just deliver the “amazing” Cook has been promising… Apple, who also wasn’t first to market with a digital music player, smartphone, or tablet, has an opportunity to do what it’s done in the past: come out with an elegant, easy-to-use device that showcases why it’s a must-have. That’s what its smartwatch rivals, dinged for creating big, clunky, and unappealing designs, have failed to do, proffering nice but not compelling features like fitness tracking and notifications.”

  1. I’m just not convinced about an iwatch, when I first saw the iPhone I knew right away that it was a must have, the same with the iPad, there was just no doubt that they were game changers. An iwatch, even if it can do half of what’s been reported, just doesn’t seem like a game changer. Maybe I’ll change my mind once we get to see it. I am really looking foward to an iPhone up grade, my iPhone 5 is getting long in the tooth.

    1. I take your point but few people initially shared your enthusiasm about the iPad upon launch, it took time and use before its true capabilities were accepted by so many and confounded the critics. To me the iWatch offers more obvious potential prior to actually seeing one*, my only doubt being the ability of such a small, compact device (which it needs to be) actually being able to deliver on that potential at this stage. If it can I think it will be a revelation that people will wonder how they did without.
      * have spoken about those often so won’t go into the possibilities now, Tuesday will be the judge.

  2. remember the iPod nano that people turned into a watch? I wonder if this new iwatch will be as good as that? iPod nano watch played music too. if an iwatch can’t play music i think it will suck. how long did that older iPod nano battery last? i know that seems to be an issue with smart watches.

  3. Apple’s buzz is back in full force thanks to TC’s double down strategy.

Despite all the claimed leaks, no one has a clue what’s going or coming and Tuesday will be so huge that it will take all the idiot wall st analists and pseudo journalists at least 3 weeks to get it.

    To the moon Apple!

  5. anyone else think they will solve the watch battery life by making the wrist band include a battery inside it? if the band could have a battery inside it , it would greatly increase the size of the band. they could still offer people a chance to buy different bands but it will also plug into the phone

    1. I’d say the battery will be able run by itself without a display, but only to store information to later be synced with the display. So a very small battery. Probably will actually recharge from the main battery in the display.

  6. It will be solar powered and have an inductive charging pad to place on at night (if it doesnt, enjoy plugging it in to charge each night, cause i wont unless it has inductive charging or an awfully cool and easy dock) if, and thats a big if, there really is an iwatch.

  7. If in fact Apple plans on rolling out this many products in one day, then we will bear witness to the beginning of a significant downward slide weeks after the shine comes off the new offerings. The tech world will look for “what’s next Apple” and the likes of Sony, Panasonic and others have all suffered with the exception of Samsung who will sell you a smartphone, a military grade weapon, a bridge and home appliances just to name a few products.
