“Apple has moved swiftly to appeal a federal judge’s ruling earlier this week rejecting the iPhone maker’s bid for a ban on U.S. sales of Samsung smartphones found to have violated the Cupertino company’s patent rights.,” Howard Mintz reports for The San Jose Mercury News.
“In a brief court filing Friday, Apple revealed that it will appeal U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh’s denial of a permanent injunction on the Samsung products,” Mintz reports. “The issue will be reviewed by the U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, a Washington, D.C.-based court that handles patent appeals.”
“A federal jury in May hit Samsung with $120 million in damages for copying iPhone technology in nine Samsung smartphones, such as the Galaxy S3,” Mintz reports, “although the panel rejected many of the patent claims and dramatically reduced the damage award Apple was seeking.”

The only good thing about Samsung was that that phone almost saved my life. I was over in St. Louis are visiting some family just as the riots were happening. I just happened to be at the wrong place, and the wrong time, and some fool decided to steal my iPhone! I had to borrowmy brother’s Galaxy to call some friends. I safely got out of that warzone, but I still will never touch a Samsung pphone. And yeah, I want my iPhone back!

You gotta keep Samsung preoccupied with litigation, in order to keep them from copying everything wily-nilly without any fear of comeback.

It’s clear Judge Koh is not going to make any rulings in Apple’s favor. She has, in effect, informed the world Apple’s patents are meaningless.
Sad, but true.

Apple will win the appeal and get SamDung banned …. While the phones maybe old, the NEWS will be new and the public will be shown again, SamDung is a thief!

What rankles me about this case is that judge Koh made Apple whittle this case down to only a few patents, because she was too lazy to hear every infringement.
Now she is saying that the violation of only a few patents or copying a couple of features isn’t enough to show that Apple marketshare and profit was harmed by Samsung.
What’s worse is that the tech media in general, now consider that Apple sued Samsung only over a few trivial patents and it was all about rounded corners.
I also can’t stand the bullshit argument that Apple’s patents are too obvious 5-7 years after they were invented.
Apple should have showed the 2007 iPhone keynote to the Jury(s). The audience were absolutely stunned. Watch the video again, Steve even demonstrated slide to unlock several times.
I also don’t know how a German and Dutch court could possibly invalidate the slide to unlock patent based on the so called “prior art” of the Neonode N1m. It uses an array of 3 x 3 infrared diodes to sense the swipes, and the slide to unlock gesture is along the bottom screen bezel, and is totally different.

Anyway, I can’t wait for the iPhone 6, hopefully it will decimate Samsung where the lawsuits couldn’t.
I think Apple is supremely confident that it will, that is why they have dropped all the court cases outside the US.
