Apple granted curved touch display patent, could support smartwatch, smartband

“The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 48 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple. “In this particular report we cover Apple’s patent for making a curved touched display. The most likely use for such a display could be in the form of Apple’s future fitness-band (wrist computer or iWatch).”

“Although Apple’s ‘Detailed Description’ area of the patent describes the curved display in context to a future iPhone, the fact is that Apple’s patent claims don’t assign the curved display to a specific device. This means it’s applicable to any future device of their choosing within reason,” Purcher reports. “Of course the most realistic short-term device that may actually use this invention for a curved display is Apple’s fitness-band (computer band or iWatch).”

  1. Oh, no. Apple is doomed. Trying to patent more curves! Samsung has already demonstrated that iPhones with curved corners cannot be patented. And Judge Judy Koh and the US Federal Justice system have apparently agreed. Nevermind Apple’s unique design “look & feel”. And forget completely about any technical achievements necessary to produce these, or any technical achievements contained _inside_ these designs. I wish Apple would patent something patentable for a change! /s

Now, to see some really important patentable innovations, people can go look up various patents on important stuff — actual life-changing innovations — for things like paper clips!
