New photos claim to show gold rear casing of iPad Air 2

“Taiwan-based accessory maker Yi Lin Enterprises has posted new photos on Weibo showing the purported rear shell of Apple’s iPad Air 2,” Richard Padilla reports for MacRUmors.

“The images show off a gold housing with a number of design changes,” Padilla reports, “including a new speaker grille with larger holes and a relocated rear microphone alongside the iSight camera.”

“Apple’s iPad Air 2 is expected to launch alongside the iPad mini 3 later this year,” Padilla reports, “and is expected to include a faster A8 processor in addition to the aforementioned Touch ID fingerprint sensor and refined physical features.”

  1. Assuming the rear shell on the image is the real thing, what do you think the Apple logo cutout is for?
A window for the radio antennas (BlueTooth and WiFi), to avoid the plastic strip on the back of current LTE models?

  2. Correct me if I am wrong, but the iSight camera would be the front facing unit and has nothing to do with holes in the rear she’ll. Apple doesn’t call the main rear camera “iSight”, do they?
