“The iPhone 6 is undoubtedly one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated gadgets, but how does this translate into actual sales?” Luke Dormehl report for Cult of Mac.
“Crunching the numbers, Taiwan’s Topology Research Institute predicts that the iPhone 6 will sell around 80 million units by the end of 2014,” Dormehl report. “With most sources suggesting that Apple plans to release both a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6, these devices will likely be going on sale in September — meaning that Apple would be selling an average of 20 million iPhone 6 devices per month, for the final four months of the year.”

“The iPhone 6 is expected to feature a new A8 processor, a Touch ID scanner, an 8 MP camera and iOS 8,” Mihai Matei reports for G 4 Games. “There have also been rumors suggesting that the next-gen iPhone will boast a QHD display, but there’s no way to be certain of any of this right now.”

How many iPhone 5s and 5c did Apple sell in 2013, again? I don’t even remember. Hopefully these analysts aren’t pulling ridiculous numbers out of their ass knowing full well that Apple won’t reach them, so they can slam Apple at the end of the year and bring the stock price crashing down.
80 million would sure be nice, though.
First calendar quarter 2014 (FQ2)
iPhone 43.719 million units = $26,064 million.
So 80 M would be 60 M in December quarter not including the 5s, 5c, and 4s sales which could bring the total to 80 M or more.
Compare to:
Dec Q 2013: 51 M units $32,498 M
This would be 57% increase in units. and 60+% in revenue as the larger iPhones are presumed to sell for a higher price.
That would be enormous!
Except that the first calendar quarter of 2014 has no relativity to the initial availability shipping months of 2013, when it it typical for new products to be not able to meet full production capacity as they work kinks out of the production line, as was the case in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010… So, back to the ACTUAL question posed. Does anyone have the total numbers of iPhone 5s and 5c sold in CALENDAR YEAR 2013 (which for clarity sake, means BEGINNING the day of first availability of those two models ONLY, and ENDING exactly on 31 December, 2013)?
The Analyst play will be if Apple sells only 20 million on launch week-end because it is less then the 25 million expected (amount to be announced after launch week-end sales are compiled) then they will declare the iPhone 6 a flop. Apple stock will tank and Google Stock will double. Double play.
Apple will sell significantly more iPhones than last year, but not 80 million. It is overblown estimation.
