“Earlier today, a thread appeared on the Reddit Mac community claiming to share a set of four blurry photos of OS X 10.10. The poster, using a throwaway account, claimed to have taken the photos himself at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, but did not offer any further details on how he was able to gain access to a system running the next-generation operating system,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.
“In researching the potential legitimacy of the images, we have been provided with some additional pieces of information that begin to paint a rather interesting picture pointing to an individual who may indeed have had such access,” Slivka reports. “While we can’t say for sure that these images are genuine, the evidence we have seen privately is enough for us to consider it a distinct possibility.”
“Assuming the photos are legitimate, they reveal a number of changes in both the look and feel of the operating system, as has been rumored for OS X 10.10. Among the biggest additions is a Control Center very similar to that seen on iOS,” Slivka reports. “In this case, the translucent pane slides out from the left side of the screen and offers quick access to a number of features, including ‘About This Mac’ and System Preferences at the very top, followed by what appear to be buttons for an Airplane Mode and the existing Do Not Disturb feature currently accessible through Notification Center.”

back to 10.4 Tiger style for the Dock
Yep. More similar to the look of the dock of iOS 7.
Blurred out opacity to match the desktop it would seem. Fine with me.
Or current-style Dock, if you have it running on the left edge of the screen instead of bottom (I value vertical space more than horizontal, so off to the side it goes).
The menu bar in those images is still using the Lucida Grande font. Gruber over at Daring Fireball thinks Lucida Grande is probably out as the system font. I guess we’ll see whether Gruber is right and those photos are fakes, or Gruber is wrong.
Not much to see here.
You know, I have never seen that “Fred Mertz” post a comment. Hmmmm. Maybe he is as fictitious as that Steve Jack character…
It is noted by MDN that “Fred Mertz” is a MDN “reader” not ‘poster’. : )
Luuuuuuuucccccccy!!!!!!!!
Whatever, anonymous commenter.
LOL.
One would think the wallpaper would have been changed for 10.10. I think these are fake. The OS itself isn’t changed at all.
Who cares?
We don’t work on the desktop. We don’t work in utility apps.
notifications are pasted on top of the desktop, instead of moving it over.. totally fake.
To my eyes, OS ten ten ten is ugly. If hardware design were physics, Jony Ive would be Einstein. If UI design were opera, Jony Ive would be a lounge singer. I don’t know of any other company that would put someone with one year of experience and no training in UI design in charge of UI design across the board.
Jonny hasn’t even learned that reflected light (hardware) and projected light (software) are different. His UI stylings would look good on a poster (reflected light) but are blinding on a screen (projected light). I understand that Jony Ive held a meeting in which he explained why his UI maldesign is wonderful. If you have to explain why something is wonderful, it isn’t. If you have to explain why something is intuitive, it isn’t.
I am sitting this one out. Maybe OS ten ten eleven.
That’s the new apple menu, people. It has all the same features and then some of the old style menu. Makes that apple in the left corner much more useful.
