Apple is hanging banners at WWDC in San Franciso’s Moscone Center.
A MacDailyNews reader sent us a photo that actually brought a tear to our eyes because, basically, it’s so “Steve.”
“Seoul, start your photocopiers.”
MacDailyNews Note: UPDATE: 8:15pm EDT: The image below is a fake. Too “Steve” to be true, sadly. Dry eyes all around.
The actual image, for iOS 8, via 9to5Mac:
For background, Apple hung similar banners at WWDC 2004 (not fake):
“Redmond, start your photocopiers.”
I thought it was a joke…
Seriously? I thought you’d followed Apple longer than that.
That’s pretty good! How insulting..
Used to be Redmond. Too bad patents don’t prove to protect.
It’s sort of a slight to Microsoft too. They once said “Redmond start your photocopiers.”
Wow, this WWDC better deliver like I hope it will, otherwise the stock will tank.
There must be something in the pipeline for Apple to hang up that banner. Also analysts all upgrade AAPL to $700+, they must know something but we don’t know of.
“they must know something but we don’t”
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, …
the stock will tank regardless. it’s called pump and dump and it’s classic. happens every time.
If that were both true and reliable, you realize you could make a lot of money on it, right?
A certain legal firm will now claim that Apple has invited Sammy to copy their ip, rendering all patents invalid.
That’s a good one…
Brings tears to my eyes! 🙂
Is that a photoshopped image? It looks the same as the iOS banner with 8 picture I’ve seen other sites have posted. Everything in the background is in the same place.
You can almost see an ‘8″ watermarked on that image. Is that just my mind playing with me?
Yes I see it too.
I feel like I can see it too.
Your mind’s playing tricks on me too. I can see it.
Yes, you’re right, that banner is not real. It’s been ‘shopped.
Here’s the same “correct” banner with the “8”.

Seoul is a very large and diverse place, compared to “Redmond” (which is basically Microsoft). According to Wikipedia, it’s the “world’s second largest metropolitan area with over 25.6 million people.” Using “Seoul” as a stand in for “Samsung” is probably insulting to a lot of people. Half of the people in South Korea live in that area. I wouldn’t want to be accused of being pathologically obsessive imitators “by association.”
While this is funny (for someone who knows the “history” of that phrase), Apple should know better…
Samsung is 40% of South Korea’s GDP or something.
Or something… That seems a bit high to be believable. According to Wikipedia, “Samsung’s revenue was equal to 17% of South Korea’s $1,082 billion GDP.”
But even if it’s 40%, 40% of South Koreans do not work for Samsung. We are talking about (unintentionally) insulting people, not money. And doing so (for a joke) makes Apple look a bit unsophisticated and unworldly (which Apple is definitely NOT).
Oh, so it’s fake. You see… Apple DOES know better! 🙂
Oh get over it.
I take offense that you said Redmond was basically Microsoft. Have you ever been there? It’s not and have you ever heard of Boeing?
That just proves my point that (if this was real), it would insult the people of Seoul in general, as being obsessive copycats without any originality. Glad it’s fake. It’s beneath Apple…
@Boeing. Glad you posted this info. I love the area and could care less about Microsoft.
You “could care less”? How much less? You could care…. a little bit less? A lot less?
The idea is that one has reached the ultimately lowest point of caring, and therefore it is not possible to care less… which, grammatically, has to be, “I COULDN’T care less.”
I like to quibble with nuances of grammar, but this isn’t even anywhere close to a nuance. It means the exact opposite of the intended meaning! Come on, ‘merikuns, don’t LOOSE your respect for your native language.
You mean that place where they park in the driveway and drive on the parkway? 😆
Maybe it’s sarcastic, as in “Oh yeah, I could care less.” or “A sarcasm detector, that’s a real useful invention.”
It’s not exactly meant to be taken literally now is it? I doubt that Apple think that Samsung or Microsoft actually used photocopiers to copy anything they’ve done.
It’s fake. Apple did not intend anything, because Apple is smarter than this… 🙂
Maybe the sign is a video display…
Glad that photo was fake. That’d be stooping to SameDung’s level or even below. You have to remember that Apple actually does fairly well in Seoul and in Korea in general despite it being SameDung’s turf. There are many Apple fanatics in Seoul as well. Trust me; as a Korean-American who visits Korea on a regular basis, SameDung has many haters there too.
I don’t care if it’s fake. I still like it! lol
Who says Apple has lost its mojo?
This WWDC is going to be historic and fun in any case. I shall be watching as much as possible with rapt attention. 😀
I paid a visit to see the WWDC setup. That sign would have been epic. Too bad I’m not going this year. However with that said, it is difficult to get into the keynote regardless. Either we skip it all together, or we end up in overflow seating. – Missing Steve
