Apple’s iTunes Store passes 35 billion songs sold milestone, iTunes Radio now has 40 million listeners

At his appearance at the Code Conference, Apple SVP Eddy Cue “noted that Apple just crossed 35 billion songs sold this past week,” Jordan Kahn reports for 9to5Mac. “That’s up from the 25 billion songs purchased and downloaded that Apple announced in February of last year. Cue said sold, but we’re assuming that 35 billion number includes both purchases and downloads like Apple’s stat did in its press release last year.”

Kahn reports, “Cue also noted that iTunes has around 800 million customers total and around 40 million iTunes Radio listeners in the U.S. and Australia with a lot of growth coming internationally.”

      1. That’s my point (though I actually didn’t look. Thank you;). If you listened to all the analysts, you’d think that iTunes was on the ropes, when it’s apparent that it’s doing quite well. Could it be doing better? Sure, but I don’t think that Apple is unduly worried about it (because as far as I can see, there’s nothing to be worried about).

    1. It is. What is declining is the average amount spent per iOS user. And for the life of me can’t understand why these stupid analysts and journalists don’t mention that fact. iTunes Music sales are not down 24% year over year like they keep telling us. It’s the per user spending that’s 24% down year over year… Last year there was about 650 million iTunes accounts, this year, 800 million.
