Dr. Dre boasts of Apple-Beats deal in YouTube video, on Facebook

“Beats co-founder Dr. Dre is the ‘first billionaire in hip-hop,’ according to a video featuring the producer and entrepreneur, which appears to confirm rumours of a $3.2 billion Apple buyout,” Luke Westaway reports for CNET.

“The clip, since removed from Facebook, was posted by by singer-songwriter Tyrese Gibson, with the caption, ‘Dr Dre ON THE night his deal went public that he did with Apple 3.2 BILLION!!!!’ In the video, Gibson appears to be celebrating the deal with Dre and friends,” Westaway reports. “‘The Forbes list just changed,’ Gibson exclaims, referring to the publication’s famous list of the world’s billionaires before Dre adds, ‘In a big way.'”

“[A photo] later posted on Gibson’s Facebook wall, showing Gibson and Dre, with the caption, ‘Apple = Beats 3.2 BILLION!!!!!! The night everything changed!!!!,'” Westaway reports. “Around 4:30am PT both the video and photo were either removed from Gibson’s Facebook page, or set to private. The clip had already been uploaded to YouTube however.”

MacDailyNews Take: Historically, the best way to lock up a deal with Apple is to make a YouTube video about it and prematurely blast it all over online. Apple absolutely loves that sort of stuff.

  1. I would really be disappointed if Apple really went with this deal. It’s not about music, it’s about complete narcissistic life and world for this genre.

  2. This rumor seems an awful lot like “media echo chamber.” One media outlet reporting on what some other media outlet said, which is then reported by another media outlet, and then a few more report that “there are increasing reports of…”

    I just don’t see this deal happening. It smells of bullshit.
