Hyundai brings Apple CarPlay into the new 2015 Sonata

Hyundai will bring Apple’s CarPlay functionality to the 2015 Sonata. CarPlay is the smarter, safer and easier way to use iPhone in the car and gives iPhone users the features they want while allowing them to stay focused on the road.

Hyundai’s latest Audio Video Navigation (AVN) systems feature a vivid eight-inch touchscreen that will integrate CarPlay for an experience that iPhone users will instantly recognize. A Sonata equipped with CarPlay, lets drivers have the ability to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages. With CarPlay, Siri provides drivers an eyes-free experience by responding to requests through voice commands and can be easily accessed directly through the Voice button on the steering wheel.

Using a Lighting connector, CarPlay works with iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5 running the latest version of iOS 7.

By integrating CarPlay into our core-volume Sonata, Hyundai is one of the first volume manufacturers to bring CarPlay to market and it will be available on 2015 Sonatas equipped with navigation later in the 2015 model year. For more information about CarPlay, visit: apple.com/ios/carplay/.

  1. In order to use CarPlay, you need to buy the option of having a navigation system … which you won’t use because you’ll have an iPhone with it’s own navigation system and up to date maps.

Typical Korean company – treating it’s customers badly and ripping them off.

From an MDN point of view, a Korean car would be a poor choice as it will contain any number of components made by Samsung. It would be prudent to boycott all Korean goods as Samsung would most certainly be profiting from selling large numbers of components to be used in those goods.

  2. Either way this is a good sign. More and more car “radio” systems from the factory with CarPlay built-in plus aftermarket options help Apple. Especially in the US. Why would you get an Android phone if an iPhone works with your car?

  3. Hoping for an aftermarket portable unit with CarPlay. We have 2 cars, a boat and an RV. We have a 7″ garmin portable that we move between the RV. boat and tow car. Would really like a 7″ portable with CarPlay capabilities. Have not heard of anyone planning to make a model like that.
