New leak may finally reveal Apple’s iPhone 6 specs and design

“MISTRXX” reports for 9to5Mac:

Just found these iPhone 6 dummy prototypes on a Japanese case-maker website. They obviously look bigger than the current line and would be used by the case community to have units ready when the iPhone 6 launches.

Some of the rumored specs:

• Two sizes – 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches
• Screens made entirely out of sapphire crystal
• Pixel density of 441 pixels per inch, from the current 326 ppi display
• There will be optical image stabilisation for the 8 megapixel camera
• f/1.8 aperture lens – an improvement over the iPhone 5s’ current f/2.2 lens
• New 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard
• Pressure, temperature and humidity sensors
• Possibly a solar power charger built into the screen

See the images of the prototypes next to iPhone 5s (gold) models in the full article here.

    1. Agree; this is complete nonsense. And there is no way Apple will leave normal-size iPhone, which is by far the most popular size in the world among any good smartphones. Even iPhone 5C is more popular than any other model of any other manufacturer.

  1. I find this story plausible. Anyone who doesn’t, must believe larger iPhone cases are unnecessary, because there isn’t going to be a larger screen.

Why wouldn’t a company who designs cases for iPhone be in an early loop, ahead of iPhone 6’s release, to be ramping up production?

Leaked images occur all the time.

The fact that these aren’t Apple-branded iPhone cases, nor are they images of iPhone 6, makes it seem plausible.

Why does that make it any more or less plausible? IIRC all the 3rd party case maker insiders claiming knowledge in order to ramp up then-rumoured iPhone 5 cases were wrong, especially the tapered/wedge design.

    2. Issues with this story…

      1) Why would case manufacturers receiving a dummy prototype have any information on specs outside of just the dimensions of the device.

      2) In the past, case makers weren’t given any prototypes. Many claimed they did and everything they posted turned out to be fake.

      3) Turn around for cases isn’t very long. If Apple wanted tons of 3rd party cases to be available at launch they’d need to release design specs just weeks before launch. Now sure, a new iPhone resolution may be WWDC announce-worthy, but even that’s a long way off. Also we usually start seeing hits in log files from engineers testing prototypes before release.

  2. I don’t know if a solar panel on a smartphone screen (or any mobile phone) is such a good idea.. 2 problems are immediately conceivable, 1) screen brightness will have to compensate when in daylight to charge defeating the purpose of having the solar panel and 2) increased heat retention.. NOT good especially for electronic devices with screens.

  3. Another ‘Shopping Wish List’ balloon!
Even supposing the dims are correct, how do they arrive at ‘Solar charging’, ‘New wifi standard’, ‘Sapphire screen’….and all the rest?
    File under :/ Time Wasting
