Jason Schreier reports for Kotaku on a statement from Candy Crush maker King:
King has withdrawn its trademark application for Candy in the U.S., which we applied for in February 2013 before we acquired the early rights to Candy Crusher. Each market that King operates in is different with regard to IP. We feel that having the rights to Candy Crusher is the best option for protecting Candy Crush in the U.S. market. This does not affect our E.U. trademark for Candy and we continue to take all appropriate steps to protect our IP.

I certainly know a lot of people with whom I can assemble, protest and freely speak opposition, peaceably with moral fervor. But, those people are a tiny minority of those around me.
I’ve got kind and caring friends who are incapable of comprehending the negative ramifications of having a corporate oligarchy running vast aspects of my US government. They just don’t get it. Point out the basic definition of fascism, as quoted from Benito Mussolini himself, and they don’t comprehend. So… They’re not going to assemble, protest, express etc. They’re going to sheeple.
A large number of people just want to ‘fit in’ to the current spirit of the age among their peers. If that’s fascism, then…

I can see the name in it’s entire form being protected, but just the single word “candy” alone is just crazy. This trend of owning common names for things is not good.
