“Apple’s next free iOS 7 update is expected to fix bugs and enhance a variety of user interface elements, but fresh rumors claim the release — supposedly coming in mid-March — will also include a major overhaul of the Mobile Device Management mass deployment system and will launch alongside a totally new ‘Volume Services’ Web client,” Daniel Eran Dilger reports for AppleInsider.
“An unverified source reported to AppleInsider that Apple is working with a select few MDM vendors and institutional clients on efforts to improve iOS managed deployment, and that those improvements are currently set to ship as part of iOS 7.1 ‘around March 15,'” Dilger reports. “While only a vague date was offered in regard to the release, the person did provide concrete information on Apple’s mass device deployment initiative, including new never-before-seen features.”

MacDailyNews Take: We await the Ides of March with far more anticipation than even Brutus and Cassius.
Beware the Ides of March…? As Julius proclaimeth, ‘what’d he say?’
As his wife imploreth him, “Julie, don’t go!”
“Management mass deployment system…” – does this possibly mean we will be relieved of the sissified icons and skinny fonts (even after enhancing them via the built in enhancement options – although deliberately designed to avoid any real change)? Too much to hope for, I know but still…
RE: “sissified”
“Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short and wear shirts and boots because it’s okay to be a boy; for girls it’s like promotion. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, according to you, because secretly you believe that being a girl is degrading.”
― Ian McEwan, The Cement Garden
‘Sissified’? Christ, you’re as bad as BLN.
I think if it were a contest, I would have to say that Jay is worse than BLN.
Yup they whine like moany old hags.
The Hello Kitty colours in iOS 7 are just plain hideous, there’s no way around it.
I’ll buy the first jailbreak app I find that’s rids me of this blight.
I’m not a complainer by nature but good grief, I’m not a teenaged girl and I don’t have 20/20 eyes or a taste for dayglo orange.
Do agree with you about the colours like being thrust back into the 70s and I didn’t enjoy them first time around.
Thanks. The ONLY reason I’m on iOS 7 at all is I did not know the update was irreversible.
iOS 7 took a few welcome steps forward (many perloined from competitors sadly) but many more steps backwards.
One example: Search. There is nothing in the UI that even hints that a swipe up reveals the search box. Nothing. Before we had a small icon to the left of the home screen. Easy.
Multiply that 500 times.
If they’re trying to attract corporate users how about building in more file handling functionality and toning down the Playskool icons and background colors that appeal to pre-pubescent teenagers, not office managers.
Right, because Apple’s graphical design should appeal to the sort of people who have kept Windows in business so long. No one appreciates attractive design like office managers.

You got there first, I actually felt a shiver as I read those words. What a horrible thought, from Disney technicolor to grey pinstriped functionality designed by the PC crowd, who said there was only one Hell. All I know is that having to acknowledge that latter bunch for so many years that is not a future I want to see again, its the stuff of nightmares and the one where Ballmer takes over from Cook is bad enough.
So for us ‘users’ this doesn’t mean jack….. again…
What a bunch of whiners comment on these articles here on MDN. Same ones, over and over, with the same boring comments.
Outside one’s cottage window, the excruciating pitch of the keening magpie, the warbling arpeggio of the mortally wounded cockatoo, and the gurgle of the dying dodo form a cacophony of demented birdsong that inspires one to rouse oneself from calm repose and reach for the scattergun.
…And with a new WARM interface and nicely shaped unflattened icons! Fine! I’m looking forward the post-flattening era! 😀
Well the only good thing about the flattening is it allows for the 3D Restoration period to follow, only without the micro managed stitching.
I have been awaiting this news with great anticipation, as they promised this functionality with the release of iOS 7.0, and failed to deliver. Hope they aren’t just pulling our legs once again. For a tech department that manages a thousand iPads and their software purchases, this will truly be a Godsend.
This is my first time i visit here. I found so many entertaining stuff in your blog, especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! Keep up good work.
Hi there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could get a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having difficulty finding one? Thanks a lot!
