Apple applies to patent curved flexible display techniques

“On February 13, 2014, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple titled ‘Flexible Displays,'” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.

“Apple’s work on flexible displays began to surface back in August 2012 and several key patent pending flexible display inventions have surfaced since. Earlier this week a Korean report surfaced suggesting that Apple may be working on a bezel-free version of the iPhone,” Purcher reports. “Today’s patent revelations revolve around the technical techniques of reducing a display border by bending the sides of a display surface.”

Purcher reports, “The invention could apply to a future iPhone, iPad or wearable smartwatch-like computer and beyond.”

  1. Note: This is a patent application for a METHOD of curving a display, not Apple trying to patent the concept of curved displays. There’s always some troll trying to attribute some crazy patent overreach to Apple. Not here.

    1. I hear what you’re saying Spark, but the first 10 patent claims are about the display, not the method, which starts at claim 11. So technically, Apple is making specific patent claims about the display itself and specific materials they’ll use etc.
