Apple’s invisible product pipeline might be more visible than critics think

“Back in 2012, a few months after Steve Jobs died, newly crowned CEO Tim Cook told analysts that Apple had some amazing products in the pipeline,” Kate MacKenzie writes for PixoBebo. “We waited until 2013 and Tim Cook said the same thing. Amazing products are coming. Now it’s 2014 and guess what? Tim Cook’s song is the same. Amazing products are coming.”

“Either Cook believes that products with modest upgrades constitute amazing products in the pipeline or he’s biding his time until the company’s inherent vision catches up with technological capability,” MacKenzie writes. “Apple hasn’t released a product roadmap and other than the Mac Pro, nothing really new and different since the iPad in 2010.”

“The company that always seems to Think Different might be leaving clues,” MacKenzie writes. “Apple hired Dr. Michael O’Reilly, former CMO and EVP of Medical Affairs at Masimo. Think health products. Former CEO of Yves Saint Laurent is now Apple’s VP of special projects. Think wearable devices. Apple also hired Ravi Narasimhan from a health sensor company, and Nancy Dougherty a highly touted engineer whose products include health monitoring equipment. Think medical devices.”

  1. Everybody is talking about it, even explaining to Tim how to explain how he’s not lying. I don’t think he’s been lying. I think he just doesn’t have any idea about how to run the company. Even if Apple introduces the things speculated in this article, it still won’t be something that just about all of Apple’s competitors haven’t already done. Could be that the once famous brand will make it seem magical but it won’t be. It’ll just be another time when, under the leadership of the hapless CEO, customer’s just shrugged and investors didn’t even notice.

    1. That’s the mindset we’ll count on when we buy stock right after the announcement and it has tanked. Then when you’re shining our shoes in 10 years we can all agree as we hand you a 50 cent tip that yes, you were probably wrong about all that.

    2. For your hatred to Tim Cook, why don’t you just startup your own company and hiring all of Apple’s engineers, then Apple would be crippled. No new invention, no new products, Apple doomed.

    3. Things have changed how? Most things existed before Apple took hold of them and made them must haves and the response to those products was little different to your own. It was just the same under SJ he simply was able to give these products a buzz and ridiculed opinions such as yours. No one could have really replaced that in the short term, if ever.

    4. “Even if Apple introduces the things speculated in this article, it still won’t be something that just about all of Apple’s competitors haven’t already done.”

Like an digital music player? like a cell phone? like a computer?

  2. Let’s stop making stuff up.

Cook said as early as last May/June that we would see some amazing new products at the end of 2013 and throughout 2014.

At the end of 2013 we got the new Mac Pro, which alone proves him right, plus all the awesomeness of the new iPads, new iPhones, etc., which were evolutionary, but in some ways could be stretched to also fit.

Now it’s 2014, barely 1/12 into the year. So everyone chill out.

Cook’s not making stuff up to temporarily settle analysts. It’s not like he’s going to hold a press conference this December and say, “Oops, we didn’t come up with anything new this year and didn’t break into any product categories, but maybe next year.”

No. It’s going to be a big year. Like he said. With brand new products. Like he said. And at least one new product category, possibly more. Like he said.

Everyone. Breathe. It’s gonna be an awesome ride. Chill out and enjoy.

    1. Thank you! Tim Cook has been saying for awhile even in late 2012 that amazing things were coming at the end of 2013 and throughout 2014.

At the end of 2013 we got the Mac Pro and the iPhone 5c (the first time apple has ever sold two brand new iPhones at the same time).

Now lets see what 2014 brings. I am totally on board with people debating Tim’s performance after 2014 but not before or during.

    2. Exactly – and remember the same folks who want Cook to quit are the ones who said that the iPad was not new – just a copy of something MS did long ago, or that the iPhone would never catch on because you gotta have those buttons. I think the products remain focused on profit, quality, and innovation in equal measure – you know like Dell (HAHAHAHAHAHA)

    3. People are also forgetting that the iPhone and iPad that were released in 2013 are 64 bit, and that iOS is now also 64 bit. Desktop class hardware in your hand! How long will it take others to catch up to that?

  3. People need to stop spreading FUD about Tim Cook. Y’all should know that he is tryin’ his best! He obviously isn’t a Steve Jobs, but he isn’t tryin’ to be: He’s being Tim Cook! I just wished more folks would understand that.

      1. Did you just tell me to stop talking like Obama? Looks like racism is alive and well in the 21st century! I always was disgusted by your immaturity on these boards, but since you personally attacked my way of speaking, as well as my heritage, you’ve basically crossed the line, and entered a whole new world of hate. You’ve truly shown your true colors, BLN. MDN, ban this racist!

        1. Whatever. Both of you are annoying all the same. You might as well be Ballmer’ Missing Right Nut for all I care. I have dealt with people like you in real life before, and those were some of the worst experiences I have ever felt. I never knew this type of prejudice could still happen, now, in 2014. I thought we evolved as a society…

        2. Societies do evolve. Some evolve, flourish and eventually evolve past their ability to exist and uphold themselves, e.g., the Roman Empire. Some do otherwise and just stagnate, e.g., North Korea since the late 1950s. But most societies do evolve. Even the Japanese society evolved during Japan’s closed door policy years. Clearly you’ve never studied anything about sociology or macro economics.

And *people* don’t evolve. The human race is evolving. The human race is evolving into what? We don’t know. Check back in 100,000 years. But “people”? They don’t evolve.

You might consider these simple facts when you want to attempt to belittle someone and instead fail miserably making yourself sound ill informed and petty.

        3. a society, like a corporation, is an inanimate entity…they don’t “feel” or “evolve.” People feel and evolve. This will be the second time I’ve had to explain this. You don’t seem to retain well either.

        4. Whatever. You might as well be Ballmer’s Right Nut for all I care. I have dealt with people like you all throughout my life, and let me tell you, it was not fun. And this was all in the 1980s too! I thought we would have progressed as a society by now…

        5. So you think I’m illiterate because of my accent? Is that what you think? You are a prejudiced man, you know that? This is part of my culture, and if you can’t understand that, then I feel sorry for you. It must be painful having a one-track mind all the time.

        6. no, I think you’re an illiterate phony because you are intentionally affecting a writing style in a pathetic attempt to sound like Barack Obama. This is the second time I’ve explained that to you, you don’t retain well either.

        7. There’s already an online petition to get BLN’s citizenship revoked and have him deported to some commie backwoods – ideally a place overseas with no internet access within a 1000 mile radius

        8. Unfortunately this site has its share of racists, teabaggers, Obama haters, and right wing nuts. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are from your part of the country. The South’s mentality for a large part, is stuck in the 19th century. Plus you have people like Rush Limbaugh polluting the minds of millions of people every day with his vile hate filled diatribes. Unfortunately, there are enough weak minded types who fall for their ignorant rantings.

        9. But…I’m not from the South…unless you were referring to the South Bronx. But I still agree with you, though. This is an amazing site for Apple related news, but sadly, members of the Android demographic decides to come up in this joint and ruin it for everyone, by saying racist drivel, bashing people such as Obama or Tim Cook, and even going as far as saying that my accent (or the way I type) makes me look or sound unintelligent! That’s some serious bull, you know what I’m sayin’?

        10. It is unfortunate the way these mouth-breathing political-trolls feel the need to denigrate posters on a routine basis. The fact that the site admin shares their ideology and refuses to ban them speaks volumes for what has become of this site. Amateur hour, hate haven is what this place has become, a giant echo chamber of stupid.

Allow me to offer up a fresher, friendlier Apple news aggregate site:
http://machash.com It is not as if MDN authors much original content anyway, the linked aggregate is actually better in many ways, least of all is the lack of ads everywhere, no pop-ups, pop-unders, or any of that greedy bs either..

          Enjoy!!!

        11. Although I am regularly pitted against botvinnik, I fail to see how his stupid comment is racist. Although his stupidity is immense, saying something about a politician is not racist. Barrack Obama is both white and black. Can people only be racist to his black side? How about just thinking of the President as a person rather than a race?

        12. Obama is neither “Black” nor “White,” he is more mocha than black or white.

And, by the way, most of us are a lot closer in color to each other than to black or white.

If we all could just get over outside color and pay attention to the inside color (red), then we might all get along better.

  4. Medical markets are absolutely HUGE: some stats …

    >120 million people w/chronic illness in the US
    > 90 million on anticoagulants &/or regular Aspirin
    >100 million with chronic pain

  5. I can feel the sadness that tim cook said it every year that the new amazing products are coming in 2013 fall and throughout 2014.

I am so disappointed ! When tim was asked about the new product , he said “Didn’t say you would see them in 2013 and 2014, but you will see exciting new products from us in the fall and across 2014. I stand by that and you’ve seen a lot of things over the last couple of months. In terms of new product categories specifically, if you look at the skills that Apple has from hardware/software and services, and the incredible app ecosystem, this set of things is very unique. No one has a set of skills like this. We obviously believe that we can use our skills at building other great products that are in categories that represent areas that we do not participate today. We’re pretty confident about that.”

All of the above is to bring u walk around the garden for nothing.

Apple is no doubt the best technology company in the planet, but it is too big to grow , being able to grow is the market rule.

So I said to sell my AAPL till TIM COOK really brings out new products that are profitable, not just talk talk and talk.
