“Last week brought some attractive potential photos of Apple’s upcoming iOS in the Car feature, and now the same developer who shared them, Steven Troughton-Smith, has a video that might offer an even closer glimpse,” Alex Colon reports for Gigaom.
“The video shows the car-based feature being run via an iOS software simulator for developers,” Colon reports. “The feature seen here is being run in an 800 x 480 simulator window.”
Colon reports, “Troughton-Smith claims iOS in the Car is already present in iOS 7.0.3, though it can’t be accessed by default.”

Which is exactly why iOS in the car is so important. Keep ur hands off the iPhone!
The problem is that the car manufacturing industry is unbelievably slow moving and when they do make a decision, it’s usually a poor one. The problem is further compounded by the fact that a car lasts for a decade or two, while the gadgets used in that car will come and go within 3-5 years.
On top of that, they go to companies like Microsoft and end up integrating their subpar wares. I forget off hand who that is, but I remember reading, it’s pretty bad.
I’d like to see some sort of Dock for either an iPhone or iPad. I already own a iPad Air, but I’d purchase a iPad mini. Dedicated for the vehicle if there was an option. Integrate it with SIRI for hands free operation, and I think they’d have a winner.
Currently, I’m using UConnect in my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Its lease is up in June 2015. I’d like to get another brand new one then and hope this sort of technology is available. Needless to say, UConnect leaves much to be desired.
Whoever gets this right, is apt to make a fortune, because what’s out now, basically sucks with many shortcomings.

Ah no this won’t work. The number of accidents this “attempt” at car integration would cause is frightening. Go back to the drawing board.
Well that’s a dumb comment because the majority of new cars sold in the past 5 years already offer similar integration. The problem is the implementation sucks. If this tech is going to be there (and it is) is rather have Apple doing the sofware then Toyota, Chrysler or Ford.

Respectfully, you are wrong. My 2002 Lexus 430S has hands-free voice control of radio and map navigation, and it works.
The basic technology has worked for years.
I didn’t say it doesn’t work, I said the implementation sucks. Android, and BlackBerry work too.. Doesn’t mean they are good.
A bug-free implementation of the Bluetooth MAP profile to allow the iPhone to reliably exchange SMS and email messages with existing car interfaces would be a good start.
