Donald Trump explains Apple’s stock swoon

“Donald Trump has taken to Twitter, voicing his concerns over Apple’s lack of ‘vision’ and ‘momentum,'” Jordan Crook reports for TechCrunch.

“On the heels of yesterday’s earnings report, which included record iPhone and iPad sales, Apple’s stock dropped about 8 percent in after-hours trading,” Crook reports. “Why? According to Trump, because the iPhone needs a large-screen option.”

“Despite selling a record number of iPhones (51 million), Apple missed expectations by a few million units,” Crook reports. “The iPhone 5c, meanwhile, didn’t perform the way the company had expected.”

    1. There might be a case for them selling a bigger screen, but if it was as simple as that Samsung would be making all the profit in the “smartphone” market. They’re not.

      1. Actually this is the biggest annoyance. Samsung is beginning to struggle a little in an Android Eco system that was always going to trend towards the lowest common denominator. If Apple had shown some inspiration and flexibility here they could have seriously put the pressure on their higher end products. If you aren’t launching new product sectors then at least make the most of the product sectors you are relying upon.

    1. Trump for President? While I’d have a hard time supporting such a notion, I doubt he could be any worse than the imbeciles that have been occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for the past 20+ years or so.

The problem is, we have a group of people in DC who are willing to risk and endanger an entire nation for political reward. I have little doubt random names chosen from a phone book would yield better results than the current crop of imbeciles ruining the country.

  1. Trump- charter member of the lucky sperm club- is a prime example of one of our country’s biggest problems. He was born on 3rd base and thought he triple (thanks, Molly Ivins) and has been bailed out more than Chrysler.

Only a moron could have a monopoly on the NE Casino market and go bankrupt. The only reason he was bailed out is the banks wanted to see if he could dig out of the hole.

What a complete and total turd.

  2. Could somebody please explain to me why Apple is so much down after making a HUGE profit yet again?

And why is Google on the rise again when they haven’t done anything new/remarkable/innovative for years? Seems like GOOG is teach..err Wall Streets pet year after year..

What on earth is going on here???

    1. How many consumers want/need/demand a larger screen PHONE? That’s what the iPad mini is for. These are the same people that will just move onto something else to complain about as soon as the iPhone’s screen is larger. It’s better just to ignore them and keep that “laser sharp focus” that Apple has and executes so well. I hope they never lose that.

      1. Samsung sells more smartphones than Apple because they’re a lot less expensive. If it were just the matter of Samsung’s smartphones having larger displays then the Galaxy S4 sales wouldn’t have fallen off as badly as they did. The S4 has a fairly large display. However, there were many consumers who settled for the slightly smaller display model Galaxy SIII because it was practically being given away by carriers and stores.

Large displays are nice and Apple should offer a larger display iPhone but I think this whole larger display thing is highly overrated and Apple’s iPhones sales not being higher was most likely was the cause of so many low-priced Android smartphones with medium and large displays. I’d say the key factor is low-priced rather than larger-displays.

      2. I’ve seen quite a few diehard apple fans go to the darkside “temporarily” to get a larger phone. This issue is real.

I don’t believe Apple is being stubborn however. It’s likely a technical issue that they’ve yet to resolve.

    2. Bullshit!! Year and year, dumbasses like you repeated this mantra of “listen to the consumer and give them what they want” and year after year, Jobs & Co. would ignore the stupidity in those mantra’s and produce what we really needed and we would swoon at their ability to know us better than we know ourselves.

STFU and let Apple do their thing. STFU and let Wall St. do their thing. Apple will continue to innovate for excellence and Wall St. will continue to manipulate for profit.

  3. …and opened were the heavens from whence came another voice of clarity within the clouds and combover. can a man not even give a little praise regarding the achievement and gravity of 64 bit mobile computing. why is it always, ‘omg, i had to sell my stock, it wasn’t skyrocketing’

  4. Just shows Wall Street’s arrogance and has always been an enemy to Apple (and any other successful business). They want churn!

Stock will skyrocket as soon as Apple bends over for the 3 arms of the US government that are all out to destroy the company for non-compliance with the NSA.

  5. We don’t care if Trump has no hair or bald, that is not important, the important is Apple got to listen to consumers want and need for the sake of marketing. and for the company as a whole.

  6. AAPL is no longer a growth stock. Hasn’t been for some time. That’s just the way it goes when your market cap is north of $550 billion.

Still, it’s demonstrably superior to its competitors and fully capable of disrupting a market or two down the road.

  7. I remember reading an article years ago, where the writer says something to the effect that if everyone says Apple is doing wrong, it means Apple is doing right. But when the everyone says Apple is doing right, then it’s time to worry.

At the time of that article, people were saying that Apple was doing the right things. So, the writer was naturally concerned.

That article was written during the years when John Sculley was CEO of Apple.

  8. I’m a perfect example of Apple’s missed sale. I have an iPhone 4s, it works fine. I want a new phone but the iPhone 5 is not as big as I want. I’m in no rush and giving Apple till the iPhone 6 to introduce a bigger screen or I’m switching. At this point Android and iOS are at near parity so it doesn’t really matter to me which I use.

  9. As a senior citizen whose eyesight is less then it was at 25 years old I for one would like a larger screen than what I have on my 4S, but not so much that I would buy an Android phone
