“Marissa Mayer, Yahoo Inc.’s chief executive, called on the Obama administration to provide greater transparency on the data collected by the U.S. National Security Agency,” Rebecca Blumenstein reports for The Wall Street Journal.
“‘We need to be able to rebuild trust with our users, not only in the U.S. but internationally,’ said Ms. Mayer, who was on a panel with other tech CEOs at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting at Davos,” Blumenstein reports.
“She said that greater ‘transparency’ would allow Yahoo to let users know which data the NSA is collecting,” Blumenstein reports. “‘People don’t now [sic] what data is being collected and how it is being used,’ said Ms. Mayer.”

With that out of the way, can I ask you to improve your Yahoo Mail. I prefer it to Gmail because Google totally f***ed up Gmail lately due to its insistence of tying everything in to Google+ which is a shitty move. But let’s get back to Yahoo Mail shall we? Oh yes, please make Yahoo Mail play nice with OS X Mavericks Mail. I’m getting quite a few errors connecting to your IMAP server. Strangely enough yours is the only error message I get. OS X Mail plays nice with iCloud mail and Gmail.
And furthermore, I know that Google bought Sparrow Mail and the development team has stopped work on the OS X app, but I’m getting a lot of error messages on Yahoo Mail on my Sparrow Mail too. So please, Marissa, do look into how your IMAP is set up and get back to me when it’s fixed, ok?

She’s not really a good poster girl for transparency. Screwed up Yahoo Mail and Flickr, without any warning, explanation, apology or discussion with the users. Her staff aren’t allowed to help the users with the missing functionality either. We don’t know when things are going to be changed back to the way they were before.

We don’t know what data Yahoo is collecting about us and how it is being used.
The problem with most of corporate America is they are only too happy to spy on you and then SELL that info to the government. They are opposed to the NSA spy on the whole world thing because it hurts their business.
If a private citizen did what data miners and online companies are doing to an individual it would be called stalking. When they do it to everybody it is treated like a legitimate business.
Some of the biggest buyers of data and online tracking info are various government agencies- some of which are forbidden by law to collect such data. If they are not supposed to collect it – they should not be able to buy it.

Simple question. Did you feel so strongly about domestic surveillance during previous administrations, including George the Second, and Clinton for that matter?
I wasn’t aware of mass surveillance of US citizens within the USA during Clinton. I keep hearing it happened but have never read about it. As for George II, I did indeed know AND I spoke up about it as soon as I knew. Before Apple took away the .Mac web space, I used to have a recording made in Buffalo, NY of George II LYING to an audience that the US government would ‘never surveil US citizens without a warrant’. It turned out that he had already been doing so for years. When his deceit became public knowledge I would point people to the recording of his lie.
