“Almost four months after its season two finale, ‘Newsroom’ has been renewed by HBO for a third and final season,” AJ Marechal reports for Variety. “‘The Newsroom’ is classic Aaron Sorkin – smart, riveting and thought-provoking,’ said HBO topper Michael Lombardo. ‘I’m sure this farewell season will be one to remember.'”
Marechal reports, “With the season three order now official, Variety has also confirmed that Sorkin has turned in script for Sony’s Steve Jobs biopic, which Sorkin was tapped to pen in spring 2012.”

Newsroom was certainly very well written in terms of the dialogue (irrespective of how much you agree with the politics of it), but my main problem was that I just didn’t care about any of the characters and wasn’t interested in what they were doing. The West Wing had great, interesting characters; NewsRoom was just interesting to see how he would handle events we already new about. Hopefully character should be handled for him in the Steve Jobs film.
It’s going to be focused on a behind the scenes look at the iPhone launch in 2007.
I suspect it’ll be interspersed with cutbacks to key moments in Steve’s life probably covering the founding of Apple Computer, the invention of the first Macintosh, the iMac and how he turned a sinking Apple around.
It’ll be tightly focused on the human drama. I enjoyed The Social Network which emphasised Zuckerberg’a geeky side as well as his financially grasping side by freezing out his erstwhile partner Eduardo Severin once he was brought under the wing of Sean Parker (the founder of Napster), the Memphisto to Zuckerberg’a Sophocles
I hope you’re right about the build up to iPhone. Seems to make sense given the Social Network’s script.
I was thoroughly disappointed with Jobs (Ashton Kutcher flick). Like how he walked like he had cerebral palsy. That film was such rush job it was insane.
The account I saw was that it would consist of three half-hour interviews with Jobs backstage prior to pivotal product launches: the original iMac, NEXTStep and iPod.
Sorry, make that the original *Macintosh*.
I know. My point was that because the characters already exist and are interesting it shouldn’t be overly hard to make them interesting on screen.

You may not agree with Sorkin’s left-leaning political views, but if you cannot acknowledge the tremendous quality of his script/screenplay writing, then your ability to independently judge quality has to be called into question.

I just hope he gets drunk and gets on Facebook in the middle of the night again. That was indeed great writing.
Only a liberal would say that “Newsroom” is “smart and thought-provoking.” And the only funny parts are unintentional — when some liberal garbage is spewed out and meant to be taken seriously.
