“Since March, the old Mac Pro has not been available to buy in Europe as changes in regulations meant that the old Mac Pro no longer complied with EU law,” Benjamin Mayo reports for 9to5Mac.
“With the design of the new Mac Pro,” Mayo reports, “Apple once again complies with regulatory requirements.”

Does anybody know which specific EU regulation the old Mac pros fell foul of ?
A lot of electronic manufacturers encountered issues with RoHS regulations ( Reduction of Hazardous Substances ), but I would have expected Apple to be ahead of that particular issue.
It was something to do with the power source I believe .
it is not compliant with Amendment 1 of regulation IEC 60950–1. According to information from Apple, the issue has to do with the Mac Pro’s unprotected fan blades. Compliance with the new regulation would require fan guards and increased protection of the ports on the electrical system.
It is expensive to go through qualification testing after design changes. Obviously, Apple was not interested in doing so with the new mac Pro under development.

Typical EU safety posturing; anyone who imagines that a computer cooling fan can pose any sort of risk to the operator, needs to have a damned good talk with themselves. Especially as the computer should be switched off before opening it up.
