“This morning, Apple CEO Tim Cook sent a lengthy memo to employees as a reflection of the soon-ending 2013 and the upcoming year of 2014, according to multiple sources,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.
“In the letter, Tim Cook discusses people experiencing Apple products this holiday season, the Apple products launched throughout 2013, and corporate initiatives,” Gurman reports. “Perhaps most interestingly for customers excited about Apple’s future, Cook teases some big plans for 2014. ‘We have a lot to look forward to in 2014, including some big plans that we think customers are going to love,’ Cook tells employees.”

This holiday season, tens of millions of people around the world, from all walks of life, are experiencing Apple products for the first time. Those moments of surprise and delight are magical, and they’re all made possible by your hard work. As many of us prepare to celebrate the holidays with our loved ones, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved together over the past year.
First and foremost, we introduced industry-leading products in each of our major categories in 2013, showing the breadth and depth of innovation at Apple. We extended our lead in the smartphone market with iPhone 5s; launched iOS 7, an extraordinarily ambitious project; released OS X Mavericks for free to our customers; introduced the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina display; and this week began shipping the Mac Pro from a manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas. We also marked our 50 billionth download on the App Store – a milestone no one could have predicted we would reach so quickly.
Together we’ve shown the world that innovation at Apple goes beyond our products to the way we do business and how we give back to our community. This year, Apple raised and donated tens of millions of dollars for important charities and relief efforts like Red Cross aid to typhoon victims in the Philippines, and we continue to be the largest contributor to (PRODUCT)RED, supporting the Global Fund in its fight against the spread of AIDS in Africa. Just a few weeks ago, Jony Ive led an unprecedented effort that brought money and awareness to eliminating the transmission of AIDS from mother to child.
And finally, Apple is standing up for what we believe is right. We know that equality and diversity make our company and our society stronger, so we’ve urged the U.S. Congress to support workplace protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. I’m personally just waiting on a Mac Mini spec update. Need to upgrade a work machine, but just know as soon as I do they’ll bump it.
I waiting on the Mac mini as well hopefully Haswell Mac would be nice.
I’d be happy if my friend’s Windows 8 machine could recognize his iphone but alas…that ain’t happening. I appreciate the secretive nature of Apple…but at some point the platitudes wear thin.
Really? Your friend could possibly buy a Mac and their problem would be solved. Why wait for Microsoft to solve something?
I suggested he get a Mac Mini…Trying to solve the problem for him yesterday…down the rabbit hole I went… into uninstalling, reinstalling, searching for device drivers, checking the control panel, trying to get it to see the device…but no joy. In other words…Windows…no joy. He agreed that Windows in almost any flavor sucks the life out of every moment you use it as you so often must plow through jargon and links to other jargon laden bullshit to solve what should be a very simple problem. I told him get a mac mini and parallels if he must have Windows…He’s considering it. In the meantime he can’t upgrade his iPhone 4 to iOS 7…or synch his music or anything else…ridiculous.
Does he have iTunes installed…? It might be necessary for his iPhone4. I don’t have an iPhone (or any “smartphone”) and I don’t use Wintel, but I’m sure older iPhones were synced through iTunes on either Mac or PCs.
Maybe he needs a tech lesson.

Sorry but Tim Cook never said Apple would introduce new product categories in 2013. And what new categories do people actually want Apple to enter. When the “iwatch” rumors cme up people say they wouldn’t buy one and nobody wears a watch anymore. When the “iTV” rumors come up people say Apple is nuts to release a TV and that hey have a perfectly good television st home right now. But then people whine about Tim Cook not announcing new product categories.
Oh come on. Let’s compromise. How about Apple puts out a new gee whiz gadget that nobody wants or needs and is as mediocre as their so-called ‘competition’. Wouldn’t that be exciting? Wouldn’t that silence all the critics that say Apple can’t invent anything new and original anymore?

A combination floor fan and iTV! When it’s hot in the room, the fan is running and you’re cooling off. When it’s cool in the room, the fan shuts off, the LCD louvres close and you’re watching iTV with access to all the Internet media on the planet. Then when it gets too hot again to watch TV, the fan starts up, the louvres open and you’re laying back staying cool.
It’s all yours Apple! A great new, inventive, innovative device no one ever thought of before that will make the critics shut up while Apple racks up $0 in profit! The iCool might even put Apple R&D in the red. Isn’t that terrific!!!!

Yes! Imagine having ‘iCool Glass’ for your head. You could tour hell knowing that when things get much too hot, you iCool Glasses will flip on the fan and cool your tired eyes while you get to watch the worst of satanic torments. Then in the less infernal, more boring areas of hell, you can tune out and watch Hellraiser I and II all to yourself.
