“Despite denials from China Mobile (CHL) and nothing from Apple (AAPL), iPhone ads — with live reservation forms — have turned up on China Mobile websites all over the People’s Republic,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.

Oh, it’s a wonderful time of the year!!
Wonderful for China Mobile, yes. This is all very curious. My guess is that the deal hasn’t been solidified and this is part of the bargaining process.
It allows China Mobile to test demand. Apple won’t say anything until a deal is signed. If it does, China Mobile threatens to walk and Apple has to cough up to demands or be blamed on wall street for the deal falling through.
My guess is that China Mobile wanted this news out as a rumour so as to see Wall Street react. If there’s a jump in the stock price, China Mobile uses that as a bargaining chip.
Essentially, they are trying to hold as many cards as possible. This is standard business practice in China.
Yup.
It’s official now. Just announced by Apple : AppleInsider.com.
Nope.
Apple just announced the deal has been signed with China mobile
Clueless investors take notice. Move your money from Google to Apple.
Any day now!!!!
I will believe it when Tim Cook says it, and not a minute before.
If Apple says keep quite, you China Mobile keep quite.
only when Apple says so, then you China Mobile can start talking.
CAPISCE?
That would be “quiet.” Quiet.
I read all the comments on the article at CNN. Wow, what intelligent comments there. Go look. Not a single political clown. No complaints about iOS 7. No liberal/conservative crap. No insulting of others. Why can’t MDN readers be like that?
CNN has moderators.

Josh, what’s with your annoying pop up ads?
You can’t hide GM
who’s gonna assemble all those extra iPhones. is foxconn really gonna do all that cuz i thought it was quite tough, already. i do hope apple can one day innovate its micro-electronics technology away from the tin market. i hear people making a lot of squabble about that issue originating from indonesia and into shenmao technology and cheman metal industrial for solder. that would really be revolutionary if circuit boards were replaced with particles of crystal and shoe leather. or whatever. i have no idea what i’m talking about.
China mobile is only testing people reaction towards iPhone .
Denial means real
Raymond??!?!?!?!?!
I thought you said there was no deal?
My guess is that Apple, and perhaps China Mobile, would like the initial several million sales to fall in the beginning of next quarter rather than the end of this one. It would be easier to meet demand after the first, as well.
The Chinese really hate samsung – anyone caught using one is typically considered to be a village idiot or criminally insane
The same is true in N. America but only the intelligentsia are aware of it. The ‘village idiots’ are blissfully unaware and continue to pull them (Samsung Galaxy products) out in public!
