Microsoft selling anti-Google merch

“Are you living in an underground bunker out of fear of the National Security Agency? ” Alexis Kleinman asks for The Huffington Post. “Are you a Microsoft employee? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, you might be interested in the following product.”

“In a bid to drum up sentiment against the data-hungry search giant, Microsoft has begun selling a line of anti-Google merchandise at its online store,” Kleinman reports. “Whether you’re at home sipping your morning coffee or on the go, there’s gear for you.”

MacDailyNews Take: Perhaps crockery is a market in which Microsoft could actually make decent products. We bet that cup leaks, though.

    1. The mug and the T-shirts, already sold out — many of them to Google employees, it’s said!

This is an interesting marketing ploy by Microsoft to promote its Bing search engine which they insist protects your privacy, compared to the reverse for Google’s.

Apple is keeping calm, coolly watching Microsoft jab their mutual adversary Google.

    1. I completely disagree, this was awesome. Win 8 isn’t a complete disaster, it was just foolish to think they could marry a desktop legacy OS to a tablet, but I’m not sure it couldn’t have been done even if MS did not pull it off.

    2. “The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste. They have absolutely no taste. And I don’t mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don’t think of original ideas, and they don’t bring much culture into their products.” Steve Jobs

  1. How bout Keep calm while we sabotage office365 for iPhones
Or Keep calm while we office for Mac is still lagging behind the pc counterpart. Or Keep calm while we open copy cat apple stores, except we sell copy cat iPads. Or Keep calm while we talk about how you can’t manage iPads in a AD environment because we won’t build tools for it, heh, that’s my favorite. finally, Keep calm while we cry about others not building features for WinPhone8.

      1. Just to let you know they were dropped a long time ago from British English too (except for one person here it seems). Just thought it best to close that one down before the ‘Quaint Olde England brigade starts to use ‘Ye’ thinking its actually pronounced Ye instead of the and give themselves a heart attack in mirth.

        1. Seems like I’m not alone after all. A quick Google of some UK newspaper websites returns a large number of recent articles using one or other of those two words. Here’s one example from a couple of weeks back using whilst in the headline:-

          http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/uk/channelislands/10424049/Rescue-plane-crashes-whilst-searching-for-missing-dinghy.html

And the Independent use -st forms of the words all the time, even in yesterday’s article about the launch of the new XBox.

(And I know this means Google just data captured that search too ;-))

        2. Yeah Dave H. But also scan just about articles at ‘The Register’ and notice all the cockney vernacular and witticisms, for which dear Mummy would slap you if she heard you said them aloud. 😉

Today’s special example, taken from one of The Register’s many articles about the 50th Doctor Who celebration:

And unless you’ve been lost up Uranus or only watch ITV, you’ll be as ready for the Who anniversary as we are with our month of specials.

          Hardy har.

    1. The most important thing to remember is that MS really doesn’t give a crap about your privacy or selling your personal information. This is just about protecting browser (and other MS products) market share. I have no doubt MS would sell their customers’ soul given the opportunity.

  2. Quote: “MacDailyNews Take: Perhaps crockery is a market in which Microsoft could actually make decent products. We bet that cup leaks, though.”

You stupid, stupid little people. You do nothing but pilfer stories from around the web in order to sell ad space. You know nothing about running a business and you sit there all arrogant, self-absorbed and proud of your snide little comments. Jerks.

  3. Yep, MS is crooked and makes crappy products, but I despise Giggle and Amazon. Their ‘business’ models violate everything I know about privacy, freedom, and confidentiality.

  4. Well IF IT DID LEAK….

Microsoft would start selling a saucer to catch the leak. It would feature a highly absorbent material. It would require a subscription to replace the material.

Also… Seems there is an pun going on with “data” and “leak” in the MDN Take. Maybe not.

  5. Google has fully deployed “private search” whereby the search phrases that you type into Google are no longer shared with the websites that you visit. But who still gets the collect that list of search term? Yup, Google So much for their privacy policy.
