“Not sure what gift to get your teens these holidays? A new survey says the iPhone is the most popular choice,” Salvador Rodriguez reports for The Los Angeles Times.
“Nearly 90% of teens said they want an electronic gift this year, and the most popular electronic choice is the iPhone, according to a survey conducted by Ebates.com, an online cash-back shopping and coupons website,” Rodriguez reports. “Nearly one-third of all teens surveyed said they want an iPhone this year, and 24% said they want an Apple iPad.”
Rodriguez reports, “The third-most popular gift was the PlayStation 4, with 20% of teens saying they want the new Sony video game console.”

Last year the percentage was considerably lower. Let’s see – these teens go to college with Apple product – then enter the work force wanting Apple products.
junk iOS 7 firmware. Folks you don’t have to pay a single cent more for junk. Apple will package it in for you, for free.
Oh, look at the ugly little troll…
We don’t call them that anymore. We call them botvinniks.
@ 313c7ro
don’t presume to include me in your ‘we!’ i prefer botvinnik’s patriotic panache to your simping pablum. get a life!
We all have different tastes. Your choice speaks volumes about you.
Buying from the convicted Korean company Samsung means you need to buy new pants and jackets. The oversized goofy phones won’t fit comfortably in any pocket. Also what teen would want a goofy oversized phone on the side of their head. It just looks stupid and you can’t use it with one hand comfortably. Goofy oversized phones from convicted Korean company Samsung!
I agree, iphone fits…………PERIOD. Just ordered 5s because they say 6 will be bigger.
I predict some crying and returns/exchanges after Christmas when parents and grandparents try to save money and buy the kids Android products instead thinking that’s an acceptable alternative.
That’s called getting Zuned! (From the horror that eager-eyed kids got unwrapping a package, hoping for an iPod, and getting a brown turd instead).
We need to come up with a 2013 equivalent to “Zuned”. I propose “Droided.”
How ’bout
“Got ‘roided?”
how about hemroided?
I see a lot of iPhone 5Cs being sold to those teens this year.
correction: you _predict_.
Thus far, over twice as many iPhone 5s have been sold than 5c. Apparently the 5c is overpriced and/or the colors are revolting … or most likely of all, kids are more than happy to receive hand-me-down iPhone 4S and 5 models when their parents upgrade. Why wouldn’t they? The 5c offers no new capabilities. One would think Apple’s marketing team would have a better handle on that. If your prediction does not come true, then I predict Apple will have an iPhone 5c price reduction or other promotion in the spring.
Mikey,
Go troll somewhere else, PLEASE- we are all tired of your sorry anti-Apple comments on this site.
Oh- but I’m sure you own plenty of Apple products, and “have since 1984” (or something)…
no.
There is no need for an iPhone 5c price reduction. The iPhone 5c sales are being lost to the iPhone 5s. Who wouldn’t spend the extra $100 to get the top-of-the-line iPhone? And Apple is more than happy to sell it to them.
I know my step-son pushes his phone to the limit, and I think most young kids are quite savvy and use it like and instead of a computer. So that is why kids want the more hopped up phone.
I do know a few people with a 5c, all adults, and only one had a complaint: battery didn’t last as long as he expected, said he preferred his old 4’s battery life.
I would think the 5C would be popular with the 9 to 13 year old group. I know my two daughters wouldn’t consider anything but the white, gold, or black model. Both already updated to the 5S. I’ve heard them say the iPhone is what the cool kids use and the vast number of their friends either have or want one. They think non-Apple phones are for geeks and dorks. No girl would want to be caught dead with a phablet. Besides, it has to fit nicely in a purse.
Looking deeper into the survey results, there exists a significant gender difference with teens 13-17. The #1 electronic gift for girls is an Apple iPhone (41 percent). For boys, it’s a Sony PlayStation 4 (28 percent).
All this proof of a sterling Apple quarter and the stock is going down. How blind can you be?
It’s the new “pony”.
I’d still like a pony. : )
Santa knows who is naught or nice. If you are good, you might get an iDevice and if you are bad, you will get a lump of Samsung.
God forbid a teen saves up money on their own to buy their gadgets rather than “wanting” their parents to buy it for them. Of course kids want expensive gifts if they’re not going to pay for it. Just the choice of words in this article are interesting, kids “want” this or “want” that, rather than, “would like this, or would like that”. There is a difference to the spoiled little munchkins. It reminds me of a quote from, “Caddyshack” (1980) —
Spalding Smails: I want a hamburger. No, cheeseburger. I want a hot dog. I want a milkshake. I want potato chips… [gets cut off by Judge Smails]
Judge Smails: You’ll get nothing, and like it!
Well, that’s a big Duh?
I think people will surprised by the 5C popularity. I believe last year the 4S accounted foe about 35 to 40 percent of iPhone sales. As I travel around the country I am seeing more and more 5Cs. And many are being used by adult males.
I love Apple, but if I had a kid who acted like this, I will give him a dumbphone circa 2005. I had one when I was that age, and I didn’t complain. Kids these days are royally spoiled, and act as if they are entitled to anything they want. This might as well be my least favorite article on this site. I hate spoiled brats more than I hate Samsung.
I’m a father of two and revue for no chance of getting iPhones and iPads!
Kids don’t realise how much things cost these days.
Btw I want a Ferrari for Christmas!
