“Apple is Samsung’s worst nightmare,” Alex Cho writes for Seeking Alpha. “To be quite frank, I don’t believe that Samsung’s brand has enough appeal among the younger demographic as the company has developed a track record of being an imitator rather than an innovator.”
“Of course, what Samsung lacks in imagination is made up for with execution. The company can source components and moves products at both the low-and high-end,” Cho writes. “Plus it doesn’t hurt that Samsung is exceptionally effective at supply chain management. Also, Samsung is extremely proficient at manufacturing hardware.”
“Prior to Apple being marketed across all the major telecom networks, Android was growing share and had a respectable percentage of the market. Now, that Apple is being distributed aggressively by all the major third parties, Apple has been able to out maneuver the whole Android ecosystem,” Cho writes. “This isn’t a good sign for Samsung or Google. Because it means that, over time, Apple may become the most dominant smartphone platform in the United States. There’s no effective counter to this problem. Plus, with Apple expanding distribution internationally, the impact will be felt globally.”

MacDailyNews Take: The Yankee Group concurs. It’s just a matter of time before Apple attains it’s rightful place as the dominant smartphone platform in the United States and beyond.

It can’t happen soon enough.
Any one who has flown commercially lately can tell you that Apple is dominant.
Very true. This goes to prove the Android demographic point. They either don’t have money to spend on traveling or don’t have the education to have a job requiring travel.
This is the stupidest comment out there. You mistake price with preference. Many smart, intelligent travelers with great jobs use Android. Stop being a classist and open your eyes to people with different preferences for phones.
People with preference for theft. I will continue to look down on those who support theft, just as I would look down on you if I knew you were wearing a stolen watch or driving a stolen car.
Now run along little Jim.
Honestly most android users have no knowledge of that stuff. Got many friends with android devices and I don’t look down on them. Just laugh a little when their phone doesn’t do what it’s supposed to. Lol.
I laugh when they look like they are holding a surf board up their ear.
The company (vendor) that runs inflight web services for most airlines reports that close to 90% of their business is coming from iOS or OS passenger connections! That is VERY telling. (Also, next flight you take, take special notice of how many MacBooks and iPads are in use as you might walk down the isle of the aircraft!)
No, he is right. Many demographics studies show this. But you obviously own an android device so your mad.
I have not met an intelligent traveler that uses an Android device yet, and I travel. A lot.
It’s not being classist either. There is nothing wrong with the poor or uneducated people having a device that suits their intellect. That’s fine with us, it’s just that they look sooooo tacky.
You pompous ass. I think I’m in like with you.
I’m not being a classist, just being real. I fly 100K a year. I see 60% iPhones, 20% Android, 20% other (BB included). If their are more Android user they must be too embarrassed to pull their phone out.
*there
Someone else pointed out that Apple does not aim for dominant market share, just dominating profits.
Having overwhelming market share brings restrictions, and raises issues of potential monopoly abuse. Apple is best served when there are *no* dominant players that can leverage their power (like MS did, and like Samsung is starting to do).
Really? Where would Samsung be without Apple? Can anyone imagine what a phone would look like today if Apple never entered the mobile phone market.
How about, where would they be without Apple as a customer? 😉
One thing I can see hurting Goigle and Samsung long-term is that they don’t offer high-end desktop solutions for professionals. Most of us that need large screens to do work are not going to give that up for a crappy chr*mebook.

Thanks, chrish1961!
The only way Apple will have the “dominant smartphone platform in the United States” is if Congress passes a law to prevent stupid people from buying smartphones.
Apple already is the dominant platform. Just ask any developer.
Apple is not Samsung’s worst nightmare. It’s the customers. Samsung should instead focus its energy trying to make products that people will buy that’s innovative. Can’t Samsung come up with their own ideas and make great products, no matter what Apple does or doesn’t do? It’s true… sometimes people have more money than brains. Size truly doesn’t matter – it’s what you do with what you’ve got.
Its, not it’s.
You pompous ass. You’re correct. Or is that you are? You is? Damn the 80’s. I should have just said No!
It’s it’s. Please don’t raise the ire of @bkire or anyone else here with your f’alse ad’vice o’n a’postroph’e u’sage, t’hank y’ou, lest you find yourself mired in pun’ishing ap’ost’roph’e puns.

None of that matters because Apple is ‘weak’ in exactly none of those categories. Samsung’s brand may be ‘meh’ internationally, but they don’t care, as long they have about 50 million Koreans to appeal to at home. That’s their ‘base’ and it’s working for them.
Confused why anyone would want a phone three times the size of their hand? Watch Korean dramas. The product placement (and full zoom screenshots) is overpowering. Apple is Sammy’s worst nightmare because they can win in every other country in the world.
uh, actually it’s is a contraction for it is or it has. it’s is correct
Samsung is proficient at manufacturing cheap plastic crappy hardware they they don’t support.
Fixed.
