China’s state-run media slams Samsung for charging customers to fix defective phones

“China Central Television has criticized South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co Ltd for charging customers to repair devices which the state broadcaster says are defective because of a manufacturing error,” Matthew Miller reports for Reuters.

“CCTV in a program broadcast late Monday said internal multimedia cards cause the software of Samsung’s Note and S series of smartphones to seize up,” Miller reports. “Li Yi, a consultant to the Ministry of Information Industry who spoke in the program, said on his Weibo microblog after the broadcast that CCTV’s priority is to ‘protect domestic consumers from the bullying of foreign brands.'”

  1. Maybe the looming 18 Billion EU SEP fine and Apple 1.2 Billion judgement may have had a pucker affect on Samsung. Thus, not cutting the monthly checks… unhappy people write negative words!

  2. Fact is China is going to hit at any successful foreign company to limit, control and bend them to its will as its market importance grows. This is just the phoney war, once its and other Asian markets it can control are the dominant part of its production and sales it will start to seriously hold the West to ransom methinks. Happy days.

  3. If it is indeed CCTV’s priority is to “protect domestic consumers from the bullying of foreign brands.” I guess we’ll be seeing a boycott of most South Korean products along with the planet’s main bully, the US.
