“The tech world continued its game of musical chairs on Thursday, with eBay hiring RJ Pittman to join its Marketplaces business as chief product officer and senior vice president,” Lyneka Little reports for Entrepreneur.
“Pittman lands at eBay after working at Apple, where he was responsible for the e-commerce platform for online stores as well as design, product management and commerce innovation,” Little reports. “In his new position, he will be responsible for creating the end-to-end product experiences for eBay’s 124 million active users and 25 million sellers.”
Little reports, “The move also comes after a huge coup for Apple earlier this week with the announcement that it has hired Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts to lead its retail division. Ahrendts, who is slated to join Apple in the spring of 2014, will lead the strategic direction, expansion and option of retail and online stores for the popular consumer electronics company.”

My only reservation for Ahrendts, how is she at rolling out new stores? and over 300 locations? I mean, how many locations does Burberry have? Forget it, there’s like 3 within a 50 mile radius of my house. Reservation obverted.
Burberry has more stores in China than Apple does.
This maybe the single most incredible thing about her. China penetration. This is a coop of crown jewel proportions. If you could mix those two things.

Communism doesn’t actually exist. It’s a pipe dream, a cautionary tale, a withering away of the state that is as improbable as cold fusion or karmic refunds. Socialism does exist, but in bewildering varieties. The project of stamping it out is a dangerous and costly undertaking akin to eliminating leprechauns. You want to avoid going there. When you vote always remember that your neighbors’ feelings, motivations, and lives are differently informed than your own. They may actually be leprechauns, so have a care, get off your high horse, and join in the celebration of life. The next round’s on me.

Socialism does actually work for some and is preferable for some. I am a GREAT fan of proto-socialist William Morris, a great artist and a great writer. But even his own life illustrates the sad side of socialism. I know I would not be pleased having to share my wife with one of my friends. He seemed to deal with it. But I can’t help but find it diminishing in spirit. On the other hand, I’m a great fan of honesty and socialism can, when it works, be extremely honest.
My biggest dislike of socialism is that, unless you’re an incredibly self-driven, collaborative personality, socialism provides ZERO incentive for creativity. Instead the incentive for the dull-witted is to mooch off the rest of humanity. Not a good thing.
I’m very self driven and do much of my work without a care in the world about remuneration or staying inside anyone’s, ahem, box. So I might do already. EXCEPT: I can’t survive without being able to get the hell away from other people’s problems when I’ve had enough. IOW: I don’t share well with others when I’m burned out. Socialists don’t take kindly to such severe independence. In that respect, we would not get along.
As for this so-called ‘communism’ crap: It’s Fraud-On-Wheels. As Hannah has said: No such thing. As I have said: Just another brand of totalitarianism. F U Karl Marx! 👿

So he was the guy responsible for the crap technical ‘support’ at the iTunes and Mac App Store? If so, good riddance. The support there is appalling. It’s one of the few parts of Apple I loathe. I’d be pleased to document the gory details here yet again, but I’ll spare you.
As I have mainly worked through their online stores, I’d be interested in hearing more — at a later, more convenient time; say over a pitcher of Sangria, at a fashionable outdoor bistro. I am convinced you have a store of fascinating details to share, and I may have a few of my own that might intrigue you as well. 😉
