“Whereas Apple sticks to a core device design and ideal, Samsung creates as many different device designs as possible, from flip phones named after Irish alcohol, to phablets that are only fractions of an inch smaller than a traditional seven-inch tablet,” James Plafke reports for ExtremeTech. “Now, Samsung has unveiled the first smartphone with a curved screen, the Galaxy Round, confirming that there’s no reason to put a slight curve in a smartphone display.”
“While a too-long-to-invoke lock screen and changing between music tracks on your phone instead of with your headphone controls certainly aren’t the world-shattering curved display features we’ve been waiting for, the Round could perhaps act as a stepping stone toward actually useful mobile devices with curved displays,” Plafke reports. “It could also one day lead toward truly flexible mobile displays. The current naming of the Round, though, is a little misleading, as the curvature is so shallow that it’d take about 300 of the devices to arrange a circle. We hope if Samsung figures it all out, it continues with the grocery store meat naming conventions, and we’ll soon be writing about the Galaxy Ground Round, then the budget friendly Galaxy Ground Chuck.”
Plafke reports, “The Galaxy Round will be releasing in the ‘Luxury Brown’ color on October 10 in South Korea, for the ludicrous price of [US]$1,015.”

MacDailyNews Take: “Luxury Brown?” Zunetastic!
At Samsung, if you throw enough shit against a wall, you end up with a shitty wall.
Samsung really IS the new Microsoft.
Google IS the new Micro$oft: sells stolen OS. Samsung IS the new Compaq: sells tasteless hardware with stolen OS
Holy shit (no pun intended)! It’s a fake Zuney!
The SHOTGUN approach to innovation.
This a joke, right?
sadly it is not. with all their wacky stuff they’ve been releasing lately i’m starting to wonder if Kim Jung Un is actually running samsung
Kim Jung ill?
Apple Innovation:
1. Observe
2. Research
3. Design
4. Revolutionize
5. — Enter cycle of Innovation
6. Observe
7. Design
8. Refine
10, go to step 5
Samsung Innovation Method:
1. Keep an eye on Apple
2. Meanwhile: KEEP TOSSING SHIT OUT THERE AND SEE WHAT ATTRACTS FLIES.
Just remember if it not apple,
It’s window based and windows sucks,
Like you said let’s just throw shit in the wind and see what you get..
Brown? How appropriate.
The return of the Zune … what a crappy idea.
Samsung pinched off a loaf… 😛
It’ll take 300 hundred to form a perfect turd. That’s a whole heap
When will Samsung install the fart sensor?
In the Galaxy S5. The phone senses you’re farting, and then (due to lag and slow processors) starts playing your “FartSong” to cover up the noise.
Unfortunately it’s always late, so not only do people hear your fart but the music attracts even more attention.
lol!
Ha..Ha..Ha..Best post of the day …
Honestly if you spread rumor that Apple is working on it they will realease one next month .. Then SamSung CEO will demonstate on stage how good such sensor is .. ” and it works with Samsung watch” …”you post your Fart result to your facebook via Galaxy Note3″ ..
One step further. The new S9 will even post what you ate to FB based on the Fart Sensor Reading! Cool!

Apple sells a brown iPhone case.

@DEVOLVED
Not the same thing.. not even close. But as always, thanks for playing, and here’s hoping one day you catch up to evolution.
Ummm… Hello??!?! It’s LEATHER!
I don’t get it. Why would you need a curved screen? Your eyes can view a flat screen of that size.
The curve also makes the phone thicker. Why do you want a thicker phone?
You obviously don’t.
Real innovation would have been a foldable display.
One that unfolds like a scroll.
It’ll fit up the leg of your drawers.
Maybe the curve prevent your pockets from bulging as it helps mold to your leg. Just don’t put it in backwards.
And then it rocks left and right when you lay it on a table and try to type on it?
Canadians north of the border will love this thing. When it snows heavily in Canuckland, they can turn it on its back and use it as a Canadian bobsled.
Or a snow shovel…
The BOGO sales will net you a pair of snowshoes!
Scrape the windshield with it…
Can you make beer out of it?
Future Samsung customer to tech support: “I need to return my phone. The display is warped.”
Samsung’s “innovations” are defects.
I think of a 1st grader with a lot of Lego parts and he’s always interrupting to show another iteration of something with blasters, wings, or wheels — and then the sound of small parts hitting the floor.
The only thing more annoying than a real Samsung product is another Apple rumor cycle.
Did no one at Samsung ask “OK, so what is the point of this? Why would someone want this”?
I was thinking the exact same thing – ‘What’s the point of this?’ What benefit do I get from having a curved screen vs a flat one after spending a $1000?
The benefit is.. next year they have room to lower the price by $100 and improve the specs. What an amazing idea!
Come back in 10 years and they’ll have it sorted out.
My thought as well. Why is a curved screen a good thing ? This is even more ridiculous than their stupidwatch. They really are clueless without an apple product to copy. Imagine Steve Jobs’s reaction had Jonny had presented a curved iPhone.
It isn’t April is it? No I thought not though clearly in Samsung’s World…
LOL@Macdailynews take! 🙂 That is funny!
$1015???
This from an user base that is too cheap to pay a subsidized $199 for a superior iPhone and is notorious for being so cheap that they don’t pay for Apps.
Developers have stated over and over again that they can’t make anywhere near what they make with iPhone apps because android users are too cheap to appreciate their efforts and expect free apps…
Yeah right…$1015 fr a curved brick.
‘This from an user base that is too cheap to pay a subsidized $199 for a superior iPhone and is notorious for being so cheap that they don’t pay for Apps.’
I unfortunately have a few of those friends who tell me ‘why do you waste your money on iph, when can get so much more for less $$$$ when you buy a android’. Not worth arguing I just rolled my head.
Buy one, get 299 free for you Circle of Friends!
And did ibhear someone say the 5c is too expnsive????
Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. I’m sure Apple’s looked into this and hasn’t found a practical use for a flexible screen – yet. Samsung hasn’t found a practical use either, but once again, without Apple to follow, they’ve release another ill-conceived product to let everybody know it’s trying to innovate (emphasis on trying).
Next up – a smartphone with no screen.
Infinite battery life, unbeatable theft deterrence.
Come on, Samsung!
$1015 for an android phone, no thanks
That was a misprint. That’s actually Google’s Android profit.
$15 for an android phone, still no thanks.
It is great but nothing we can benefit from it .
So, would the curve make it more or less prone to shattering when dropped?
less prone to being picked up!
Microsoft, Asus, Samsung… well, shit Does attract flies…
Samsung fans. I am extremely interested to hear your justification on this glorified egg timer. ….. ..
No doubt you will defend this as “amazing”.
Samsung:
How can we elegantly market Android 4.0 Iced Cream Sandwhich which is the very best thing yet!
OH! got it… Introducing:
SAMSUNG Gelato Scooper s5S Esss
I think Samsung is being very clever (read sneaky) lately.
First with the watch now the curved screen, both things that Apple have been rumoured to be working on, they are bringing out stuff so they can claim prior art. Who cares how well it works or how many they sell if they can stop competition this way?
So not content with copying Apple they are now pre-copying.
Except that this will completely backfire because the products are garbage and Apple will destroy them when Apple comes out with it’s real products.
I’m actually wondering if the rumored iWatch is just Apple “leaking” details about its smart watch that it has no intention of making, all while Apple keeps real innovations like the 64-bit A7 under wraps. An empty Trojan horse, if you will.
