“Apple has unseated Coca-Cola as the world’s No. 1 brand, as the company founded by Steve Jobs is a leader in design, performance and focuses on customers, according to a study of the Top 100 brands by Interbrand Corp.,” Kristen Schweizer reports for Reuters.
“Apple Inc.’s brand value jumped 28 percent to $98.3 billion, Google Inc. is now in second place at $93.3 billion, and Coca-Cola Co. has slipped from the top seat after 13 years to third place at $79.2 billion,” Schweizer reports. “‘Every so often, a company changes our lives — not just with its products, but with its ethos,’ Jez Frampton, chief executive officer at New York-based brand consultancy Interbrand, said in a statement. Current Apple CEO ‘Tim Cook has assembled a solid leadership team and has kept Steve Jobs’ vision intact — a vision that has allowed Apple to deliver on its promise of innovation time and time again.'”
Schweizer reports, “Yahoo and BlackBerry fell off this year’s ranking. Nokia dropped to 57th place from 19th with the largest decline in brand value in the history of the 14-year study.”

Why would it boggle your mind? Android is installed on 85% of all smartphones. iOS on 10%. Which is more well known?
iOS. I’ve never heard of an Android release nearly crashing the internet.
That is because 95% of the Android devices out there can’t update to the new version when it is released.

85% of smart phones? LOL. Most Android phones are feature phones and you know it.
There are less than 15% of Android phones that come anywhere near a true smart phone like an iPhone.
Kind of boggles my mind too. Sorry, but I still recognize Mercedes Benz or BMW ahead of Google. As important as they are in the tech space, they are still just an Internet company and don’t have much relevance outside of that cyber bubble.
They sell eyeballs for chrissakes. And everyone’s personal data. That anyone uses their services is a testament to P.T. Barnum.
Google has worldwide brand presence, probably more for search and maps than for its Android OS. Many people say “Google it” when they mean search on the internet. And Google Maps is still the king, although I would like to think that Apple maps is gaining ground. As far as the Android OS goes, I would wager than many Android users don’t even know that the Android OS comes from Google (and, allegedly, other uncredited sources!).

There is possibility (actually, virtual certainty) of a massive fiscal crisis in America due to political blackmailings of American elected representatives. Apparently, they will completely shut down their government tomorrow and default on their financial obligations, because their elected officials are holding their ability to pay financial obligations ransom in order to push some political agenda.
American political landscape has become completely toxic, at this point absolutely NOTHING can be done unless one single political party (whichever) has decisive majority in both houses. It will be interesting to see how this approach goes over in the next year’s election.
It’s about Obamacare. The complete and total shutdown of the Federal government is a very small price to pay to get rid of that wretched bill.
It is fascinating how many Americans are absolutely clueless about their newest health care law that they would rather send their economy over a cliff than allow themselves (as a nation) to have anything resembling universal health coverage for everyone, lest it be even remotely perceived as “socialist”!
As a foreigner, all I can say is that I’m completely baffled. Apparently (according to some news articles), in some states, the political opponents of this law are now encouraging young people to NOT sign up for ANY health coverage (!!!???). Would any normal parent ever want to give such an idiotic advice to their own child?
Looking at American history, this looks very much like the introduction of Social Security and Medicare. I’d like to see how would Americans imagine living without these two.
One more thing; by shutting down the government, the opponents are ensuring that the bill actually REMAINS in force (since there is no chance the American senate will actually accept the bill crippling the health care law, in order to fund the government).
It will be fun to see what will be political consequences of this game of chicken next year in November.
Irrationality incarnate. Congress should do its job and fund government functions. If the GOP (really the Tea Party) wants to have yet another Congressional debate over the Affordable Care Act (as if 42 times is insufficient), then schedule that after passing a freaking budget or, at least, a CR.
The GOP would have had a complete hissy fit if the minority Democratic Congressional delegation had acted the same way during the Bush administration. The level of obstruction and coercion enacted by the GOP since 2008 is unprecedented in my lifetime. If the tables are turned in the future and the Dems decide to follow retaliate in similar manner against a GOP administration, then this country is in for major trouble.

There are a lot of phone and laptop hardware makers having layoffs, including Toshiba. They don’t want to see Apple succeed.

This time though it’s good news, with any luck their government will be partially closed starting tomorrow. You might expect some fireworks within their borders, but the odds of a random invasion by this nation will drop substantially.
